Rosario's Career Day Powers Mavericks Past BYU

PROVO, Utah - Led by a seven RBI performance from Eduardo Rosario, the Mavericks routed BYU 16-4 in Saturday's series finale. As a result of today being a travel day for Omaha, both teams agreed ahead of time to end the game early if either one led by 10 after the seventh inning.

Scoring their most runs and recording their most hits (17) since February 19, 2022 at San Jose State (15 runs, 19 hits), Omaha (3-8) avoids getting swept by the Cougars (4-7), who lose their first home game of the season.

Innings 1-3
For the third time this series, the Mavericks were on the board first as they plated three runs in the top of the first. Mike Boeve drove in the first as he singled home Drew Lechnir who reached on a double to left. Eddie Satisky followed up with an RBI double of his own and later came around to score on a single from Rosario.

The next inning, Boeve picked up his second RBI of the day after he ripped a double down the left field line to bring home Haiden Hunt and make it a 4-0 game.

The Cougars got their only run in the first three innings on a two-out solo shot from Cooper Vest in the second. This was the only hit Charlie Bell allowed through the first three as he got off to his best start of the year so far.

Innings 4-6
Austin Deming cut Omaha's lead to 4-2 in the fourth with BYU's second solo home run of the day. The Cougars had a chance to prolong the inning, but Hunt chased down a shallow fly ball and made an amazing sliding play to retire the side.

Noah Greise rocketed the Mavericks' sixth double of the day in the fifth to bring home Satisky and regrow Omaha's lead to three. Devin Hurdle would make it a four-run lead as he found the hole and lined an RBI single through the left side.

After the Cougars tacked on another run in the fifth, Greise got it right back with his second RBI of the day, before Rosario unloaded on a pitch right down the middle for a three-run home run to make it 10-3.

Inning 7
The Mavericks' offensive barrage continued in the seventh as Satisky drove in his second of the day, followed by a bases loaded HBP by Brennen Bales. Rosario then sent a double over the left fielder's head to clear the bases and make it 15-3. Zach Lechnir became the seventh Maverick to drive in a run today as he singled in Rosario.

All told, the Mavericks scored six runs in the seventh as they batted around, with Hurdle picking up both the first and last hits of the inning.

The only thing left was for Wyatt Sellers to finish off the Cougars in the seventh and send the Mavericks home with a win.

Inside the Box Score
Rosario's seven RBIs are not only the most he's ever recorded in a single game, but the most by any Maverick since Chris Esposito against Mizzou back on February 27, 2021.

The Mavericks hit six doubles for the second consecutive game as they finished the series with 13 doubles and 16 total extra-base hits.

Boeve's second inning double moved him into a four-way tie for fifth on Omaha's all-time doubles list with 45.

Bell had his best outing yet this season as he fired five strong innings, allowing only three hits and striking out three.

Up Next
The Mavericks will return home next week for another one-off as they host Creighton at Tal Anderson Field on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
