Around the Horn
- The Mavericks begin the week at 7-10 overall and 1-2 in the Summit League after opening their conference schedule with a win and two losses vs. North Dakota State last week.
- Preston Tenney picked up the lone win for Omaha in the series, improving to 2-2 on the year after a solid five innings in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. His 92 pitches were the most he's thrown yet in a game.
- Rans Sanders earned his third save of the season with two shutout innings to close out game one against the Bison. He also struck out three batters and allowed just one hit and no walks.
- Mike Boeve made his return to the lineup for the NDSU series as a DH after missing the previous two games with a minor leg ailment. He did not miss a beat as he reached base in 10 of 13 plate appearances, going 4-for-7 in the series and walking four times without striking out once. With two hits in game one vs. North Dakota State, Boeve now has eight multi-hit games this season.
- Harrison Kreiling is also looking like his old self again as he made just his second appearance of the season after coming back from injury and went five strong innings against the Bison, holding them scoreless in three of the five innings. He also made his share of impressive plays in the field, including a diving toss to first to get the runner after initially taking a line drive off the bottom of his cleat.
- Cam Frederick, who continues to fill in for Boeve at third, remained red hot at the plate in Saturday's doubleheader, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs and a walk in game one, and going 3-for-4 with a double and a run in game two.
- Sid deMayo also had a notable game last week as he recorded his first career hit in game two of the doubleheader with a single to left.
- Cooper Prososki was the only Mavericks pitcher to not give up a run in the final game vs. NDSU, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit.
Scouting Arkansas
Arkansas is currently 20-4 and is coming off a 1-2 series at No. 1 LSU in which they scored 16 runs and allowed 29.
Jared Wegner is one of the top sluggers in the SEC, leading the Razorbacks with a 1.340 OPS (.826 SLG, .514 OBP). He also has 11 home runs, 38 RBIs, and 32 runs scored. Kendall Diggs (1.227) and Jace Bohrofen (1.259) round out Arkansas' trio of batters with an OPS above 1.000, with Bohrofen also leading the team with a .403 AVG.
Arkansas' pitching staff is led by Hagen Smith, who owns a 1.95 ERA in seven appearances (four starts). Fellow starters Hunter Hollan (1.97 ERA) and Ben Bybee (1.98) have impressive numbers too, as does reliever Dylan Carter (1.97).
Head coach Dave Van Horn is one of the most successful coaches in Arkansas history, winning two SEC Coach of the Year awards and leading the Razorbacks to seven College World Series appearances. Of his 1187 career wins, 816 have come with Arkansas.
Scouting Northern Colorado
Northern Colorado faced a tough non-conference schedule and begins the week at 4-16 overall, but 2-1 in the Summit League after winning their series against South Dakota State last week. They will also play Colorado Springs before coming to Omaha.
Austin Bunn and Caden Wagner are two of UNC's top hitters, with Bunn hitting .321 with an .853 OPS, and Wagner hitting .288 with a team-high .903 OPS. Wagner also leads the team in home runs (four) and RBIs (17).
Northern Colorado's pitching staff struggled through the first half of the season, coming into this series with a 12.40 staff ERA and no pitchers with an ERA below 5.00, as well as no starters with an ERA below 7.00.
Mike Anderson is in his first season leading the Bears. Prior to returning to his alma mater, Anderson spent nine years as head coach over at Nebraska, compiling a 339-211 record and leading the Huskers to five NCAA Tournament appearances and a College World Series berth in 2005.
