Mavericks Sweep Doubleheader from Stonehill

OMAHA, Neb. - Forced at the last minute to play a doubleheader due to the weather forecast, the Mavericks more than rose to the occasion as they swept both games on Friday against Stonehill, shutting out the Skyhawks 10-0 in game one and routing them 13-3 in game two. Both games were only seven innings.

Omaha (5-8) has now won three games in a row for the first time this season after blowing out BYU 16-4 last week in what was also a seven inning game. Stonehill (1-9) has now lost three in a row after picking up their first win of the season last Sunday against West Point.

Game 1
Caleb Riedel was at the top of his game today, firing six shutout innings in which he allowed just one run and one walk while also striking out a career-high 13 batters. At one point, Riedel struck out five batters in a row between the fifth and sixth innings. He earned his first win of the season and lowered his ERA to 4.12 in the process.

As for the offense, after an RBI single from Devin Hurdle got the Mavericks on the board in the second, they exploded with eight runs in the third. Noah Greise drove in the first two with an RBI single to center, followed by back-to-back bases loaded walks drawn by Hurdle and Haiden Hunt. Drew Lechnir then cleared the bases with a double to left, before Eddie Satisky capped things off with a sac fly.

All told, 16 Mavericks came to bat as Stonehill was forced to use three pitchers in the inning.

Hurdle would later crush his first home run of the season over the opposing bullpen and out of the stadium to make it 10-0.

Game 2
Preston Tenney also had his best outing of the season as he went six scoreless innings, allowing just five base runners. With 12 strikeouts, he not only set a new career high, but nearly doubled his total on the season.

Omaha's bats got started right away this time, plating six in the first inning alone. Cam Frederick crushed a three-run homer on the first pitch he saw, while Eduardo Rosario and Hurdle drove in the next three by swinging on the first pitch too.

In the second, Drew Lechnir, Satisky, and Brennen Bales were all walked and advanced on a wild pitch one after another to start the inning, with Lechnir coming around to score on the third ball to get past the catcher. Zach Lechnir and Greise would then knock back-to-back doubles to make it 10-0 in the second.

Omaha's barrage of extra base hits would continue in the third as Bales plated a run with a double of his own. Then, in the fifth, Frederick launched his second homer of the game over the wall in left, with Hurdle driving in the 13th and final run on with the seventh double of the day for Omaha.

Inside the Box Score
Seven Mavericks were hit by pitches across both games today.

Game two marked the first time in Frederick's career that he has hit two home runs in one game.

Across both games, Hurdle batted 4-for-6 with one home run, a double, and six RBIs.

Drew Lechnir and Greise went 3-for-6 and 3-for-5, respectively, with Lechnir scoring three runs and Greise scoring four.

All four Mavericks pitchers combined to throw 14 innings, allowing only three runs on nine hits and four walks, all while striking out 29 batters.
