Mavericks Close Regular Season Action in Denver

The Basics
Omaha will close the 2023 regular season in Denver Saturday. The Mavericks and Pioneers tipoff at 4 p.m. CT with Omaha looking to sweep the series and close out the year with a win. The Mavericks are coming off a loss to South Dakota State, while the Pioneers handed the Coyotes a hefty loss last Saturday.

Quick Hits
• 2023 regular season action wraps up across the Summit League this weekend. Omaha looks to complete the series sweep at Denver. It would mark Omaha's only sweep this season.
• A nine-game losing streak came to an end last Thursday night with the Mavericks prevailing, 78-72, over South Dakota. Four Mavericks put up double-figure performances helping snap the skid.
Frankie Fidler notched his fourth double-double of the year with 27 points and 10 rebounds. He was 10-of-15 from the field. Fidler followed that up with a 20-point performance against SDSU.
Ja'Sean Glover and JJ White each added 11 points, while Tony Osburn scored 10 off the bench.
• Osburn and Marquel Sutton recorded career-high rebounds against the Coyotes. Osburn grabbed six, while Sutton saw his first double-digit night with 10 boards.
• Omaha dropped two on the road last week and saw its first overtime of the year at North Dakota.
• Fidler and Tony Osburn scored double-figures vs. the Fighting Hawks, but the Mavericks fell in OT, 76-73.
• Fidler scored a game-high 25 points on 8-of-14 from the field. He was a perfect 8-of-8 at the line. Osburn added 11 points off the bench.
Dylan Brougham had a productive night in the starting lineup. He scored eight points and grabbed a season-high eight boards. He also finished with Omaha's lone block.
• At NDSU, Fidler scored 14 second-half points to lead the Mavericks. Jaeden Marshall and Osburn scored 12 off the bench to complete the double-figure scoring efforts.
• With three games of the regular season remaining, Omaha is fighting to finish in the bottom three of the standings. Oral Roberts remains the only undefeated team in league play at 14-0 and have claimed the regular season title.
• Following last week's action, the Mavericks continue to sit third overall in the league shooting 77.6 percent from the line. Their free throw percentage ranks 13th in the NCAA.
• Fidler continues to lead Omaha at the charity stripe. He is shooting 88.6 percent ranking 21st in the country. He's made a total of 132 free throws this season, which ranks 29th in the country.
• Omaha's bench mob continues to support the Maverick offense. They rank 64th  in the NCAA in bench points per game. Omaha averages 23.66.
• Over the last two weeks, Fidler has had 20+ and 30+ point performances helping bump his scoring average to 14.8 ppg to rank ninth in the league.
• Fidler scored a season-high 33 points against St. Thomas and dropped another 25 points at North Dakota. Against South Dakota, he scored 27. Fidler is currently on a eight-game streak with at least 10 points scored.
• On the glass, Fidler also leads Omaha with 5.7 rpg. He is tied 10th in the league. He's notched at least 10 boards in four games this season, which helped him record double-doubles in those outings. Fidler set a career-best 11 rebounds earlier this season against Idaho.
• Head coach Chris Crutchfield has a 18-30 overall record. It marks his second season as a head coach and first with the Mavericks.

Scouting the Denver Pioneers
Denver is 14-16 overall with a 5-12 showing in the Summit League. The Pioneers won their last game against the South Dakota Coyotes, 86-68. Before the win, they dropped their previous four games. Denver has two league wins against South Dakota and Western Illinois and one vs. North Dakota. The Pioneers sit fifth in the league in scoring with 72.8 points per game.

Tommy Bruner leads Denver with 15.9 ppg on 40.6 percent from the field. In three of the last four games, Bruner was help to less than 10 points. He has scored double-figures in 25 of the 30 games this season, which includes a season-high 29 points vs. Kansas City. 

Jeff Wulbrun is in his second season with the Pioneers. He has a 25-37 record at the helm.

All-Time Against Denver Pioneers
Omaha leads the all-time series 12-11 following a win to start conference play this season. Luke Jungers dropped 20 points in the win, while JJ White (19/8a) and Frankie Fidler (16p/7a) had near double-doubles.
