Weiss' OT Winner Propels Mavericks to Victory Over CC on Military Appreciation Night

The No. 16 Omaha Mavericks grab a big two points behind Tyler Weiss' OT winner to defeat the Colorado College Tigers 3-2 in front of the largest crowd in Baxter Arena history. With the victory tonight on Military Appreciation Night, the Mavericks set a program record for consecutive home conference wins with seven.

Ty Mueller got things started for Omaha tonight when he cleaned up rebound in the crease off a Jack Randl shot at 15:48 of the 1st period. Junior winger Matt Miller registered the secondary assist to bring his season total to 20 points. With 12:02 left in the 2nd period, Junior forward Kaden Bohlsen unleashed a wrist shot from the high slot to put the Mavericks up 2-0 on CC. The play wouldn't have been possible without the spectacular offensive zone hold of Rookie winger, Jacob Slipec who had the lone assist on the goal.

CC needed a pair of power play goals (5-on-3 and 5-on-4) to get a pair of pucks bye January National Goalie of the Month, Simon Latkoczy. It would be enough to force OT in tonight's contest.

With 1:48 left in OT, Ty Muller made a great hustle play to draw a tripping minor. Omaha would need only four seconds on the power play before Tyler Weiss blasted home a one-timer top right corner to secure the Mavericks 15th win of the season. Sophomore forward Cam Berg won the faceoff cleanly back to Sophomore blueliner Davis Pennington who slid it over Weiss and the rest is history.

Earning his 8th win of the season, Latkoczy stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced this evening and did not allow an even strength goal. The Trencin, Slovakia native extended his streak of allowing two or less goals to 10 games tonight.

The Mavericks and Tigers will wrap the weekend up tomorrow night at Baxter Arena. Puck drop slated for 7:07 p.m.
