It took 63:03 for the games first goal tonight but it came off the stick of Senior alternate captain,
Jack Randl.
After 60 minutes of scoreless hockey, the No. 20 Omaha Mavericks and Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs would need overtime to decide tonight's series finale battle. With offensive zone possession,
Jack Randl had the puck poked off his stick and out of the zone. Maintaining control along the boards in the neutral zone, Randl made a great move back towards the attacking zone, took the puck to the top of the right-side circle and fired the game winning goal home into the top right twine.
The other star of tonight's contest was Sophomore netminder
Simon Latkoczy. Latkoczy blanked the Bulldogs on all 29 of their shots to record his first shutout of the season and third of his career. Latkoczy improves to 6-3-1 between the pipes on the campaign.
Omaha beat UMD in just about every aspect of the game this evening. They outshot them 31-29, doubled them up on faceoffs 44-22 (66.7 percent) and held them scoreless in three power play attempts.
In the second period, Omaha kept UMD to just three shots on net while they poured on 15 in the frame. As for the faceoff battle, captain
Nolan Sullivan won 16 of the 21 draws he took tonight.
The penalty kill shined once again. The Mavericks went 3-for-3 down a man in the contest. On the weekend, Omaha kept the nation's top power play unit scoreless in all six of their man advantage opportunities.
The Mavericks return home next weekend for one more series before the holiday break. They welcome the first place St. Cloud State Huskies.
