Dec 12, 2023

Omaha, Neb.-- The Omaha Mavericks swept the TicketSmart Summit League Peak Performers of the Week honors for the second time this season, as announced on Tuesday afternoon. Morgan Baker and Jace Walker garnered Swimmers of the Week. Ian Blackstock and Darby Drake earned the Divers of the Week.

Morgan Baker earned her first Peak Performer weekly honors after three first-place finishes. Baker started the meet off strong with a 26.51 split in the 200-medley relay, claiming first. She earned an individual first-place finish in the 50-free with a time of 24.47. In the 100-fly she had the highest finish for Omaha coming in third with a time of 1:00.89. Ending the meet she claimed another first-place finish in the 200-free relay with a 24.22 split.

"Morgan is committed to everything she does," said Head Coach Jessica Hessel. "She's really turned a page her senior year and has been reliable for us all season. She is a difference maker for us in and out of the pool.

Jace Walker also tabbed his first weekly honors of the season, also with three first place finishes. At the start of the meet him and his 200-medley relay team took first where he split with a time of 22.60. He also took first in the 100-back with a time of 52.09. His final individual first-place finish came during the 100-fly where he recorded a time of 50.47. To finish off the meet he took second in the 200-free relay with a split of 20.85.

"Jace has been training hard all season and it's fun to see him get this honor as a testament to his dedication," said Hessel. "He has been consistent for us and I know the best is yet to come."

Darby Drake earned back-to-back honors, tabbing her fifth of the year. Drake swept the women's dives finishing the one-meter with a final score of 259.95. In her first place finish on the three-meter, Drake had a final score of 274.60.

"Darby wrapped her fall season with a solid performance against the Tommies," said diving coach Eric Sprague. "To be recognized by Summit League as the TicketSmarter Diver of the Week for the fifth time this season is an impressive accomplishment.  I know competing is her favorite part of what we do, and she's brought great focus and energy to all of our competitions this fall.  What our fans don't see and what the scores don't show is how good of a teammate she is and how supportive she is of everyone in the program.  We've got a few weeks to regroup and be focused on some details before we pick up competitions again in January.  Congrats on a great fall season Darby!"

Blackstock tabbed his fourth diver of the week honors after another stellar performance on the boards. In the one-meter he finished with a score of 295.25 for the first place finish. On the three-meter board he claimed second with a final score of 247.65.

"Ian had a good meet against the Tommies but had one dive he'd like to have back on three-meter," said Sprague. "I'm happy for Ian being recognized by the Summit League for the fourth time this season as the TicketSmarter Diver of the Week.  He brings his lunch pail to work every day and approaches his workouts with determination.  Our men have had a solid fall and have put themselves in a good, competitive position as we head into the back half of the schedule.  We've got a few weeks to focus on training before we compete again in January, and I know Ian and the rest of the guys will make the most of this window."
