Mavericks Shutout By Golden Eagles in Final Regular Season Match

Omaha, Neb. -- The Omaha Mavericks dropped their final regular season match of the 2023 season with a 3-0 contest against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Though a dominant first half, the Mavericks fell short in the second.

The Mavericks fall to a 6-7-4 overall record and 3-3-2 Summit League record. 
 
How It Happened
    • The Mavericks had an assertive first half. With what seemed like majority possession, the Mavericks got six shots in during the first and kept the Golden Eagles to just three shots. 
    • Omaha's defense showed promise after only allowing one corner in the first 45 minutes.
    • The Mavericks stayed disciplined in the first with only three fouls called against them. 
    • At the end of the first, Omaha was awarded four back-to-back corner kicks and had some good looks on net, including a rocket shot by Luke Smith. Though all good looks, nothing came about for the Mavericks. 
    • With a  strong first half, Omaha went into halftime in a 0-0 stalemate. 
    • Coming into the second half scoreless the Mavericks kept pressure on the Golden Eagles, but in the 56th minute ORU broke the stalemate and had a 1-0 lead. 
    • Again in the 67th minute Oral Roberts found the back of the net with a clean pass in front of the net for 2-0 advantage over the Mavericks. 
    • The Golden Eagles final score was scored in the 84th minute after Jose Estrade took a shot and Shane Anderson picked up the rebound, finding the back of the net for a 3-0 final decision. 
 
Inside the Box
    • The Mavericks trailed in shots 15-8, giving up 12 shots in the second half. 
    • Omaha had the advantage with six corner kicks, while holding ORU to five. 
    • Fouls were in favor of the Mavericks as the Golden Eagles were called for 10 and Omaha was called for nine. 
    • Thore Boehm and Junior Casillas led shots with two each. 
    • Nathanael Sallah made seven saves, just one shy from tying his career high eight saves. 
    • Sallah falls to a 4-4-2 record on the season.
    
Up Next
The Omaha Mavericks will rematch the Golden Eagles this Thursday at 2 p.m. for the semifinal round of the Summit League Tournament in Tulsa Oklahoma.
