The Omaha Mavericks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in tonight's home-and-home series finale against Augustana defeating the Vikings 5-2.
Like last night, the Mavericks found the back of the net in the opening five minutes.
Victor Mancini fired a high shot from just outside the offensive zone that tricked Augie netminder Zack Rose. Mancini's second goal of the season, that was assisted by his defensive partner
Kirby Proctor, gave Omaha a 1-0 lead.
Later in the period, in his collegiate debut, Freshman forward
Charlie Lurie created an offensive zone turnover. He jumped a Vikings outlet pass and quickly moved it down low to
Tyler Rollwagen who blasted home a one-timer to extend the Mavericks lead to 2-0 at 11:39 of the frame.
Omaha added another pair of goals in the middle 20 minutes of the contest from
Jimmy Glynn and
Jacob Guevin on the power play. From the right-side corner,
Jack Randl sent a backhanded pass to the slot where
Dom Vidoli fed
Jimmy Glynn for a backdoor tap-in goal. Glynn's second goal of the campaign comes in his 100
th career contest in a Maverick sweater.
Jacob Guevin scored his first goal of the season when he snuck down low and cleaned up a loose puck sitting in the Vikings crease.
Matt Miller and Jo Lemay recorded the helpers on the fourth Omaha goal.
Jack Randl deposited the Mavericks fifth and final goal of the night into an empty Vikings net with 69 seconds to play. On the penalty kill, Proctor wrapped a clearing attempt all the way around the boards and down the ice. Randl was there to pick it up and softly put it home.
Seth Eisele registered his third victory of the season. He turned away 18 of the 20 shotes he faced tonight.
Once again, the Mavericks won the shots on goal and faceoff battle. Omaha put 29 shots on net to Augie's 20 and won 32 draws to the Vikings 22.
The Mavericks are slated to hop on the road and resume NCHC play next weekend when they head to Duluth, Minnesota to battle the UMD Bulldogs.
