Omaha, Neb. - The Omaha Mavericks fall short 82-70 to the Northern Colorado Bears.
The Mavericks fall to a 1-3 overall record on the season.
Today's attendance of 5539 broke the all-time record for fans in attendance at an Omaha Women's Basketball game.
Leaders For Omaha
In today's game three different Mavericks tallied double digits and eight scored. Scoring was led by
Grace Cave, pacing the team with 19 points. Cave collected seven field goals (7-of-9) and four free throws (4-of-4). Cave and
Lucy Ghaifan led the Mavericks with two steals. Ghaifan put up 14 points (6-of-7. The third Maverick to sink double digits was
Polina Nikulochkina with 11 points off three field goals (3-of-9) and five free throws (5-of-8).
Kennedi Grant led Omaha again with five assists.
Leaders for Northern Colorado
Seneca Hackley ad Aniah Hall put up 22 and 20 points, respectively, and Delaynie Bryne sunk 16 points to give three Bears double digits. Michelle Duchemin made 10 rebounds and went a perfect 4-of-4 on the free throw line. Bryne made two blocks and Hackley tallied two steals for the Bears.

Omaha shot 44.1% (26-of-59) to Northern Colorado's 60% (30-of-50). The Mavericks trailed 21.4% (3-of-14) to 42.9% (9-of-21) behind the arc. Omaha out shot on the free throw line 71.4% (15-of-21) to their 65% (13-of-20).
Inside the First Quarter
The Mavericks had another slow start to the game. Northern Colorado won the tip-off, scoring at just 9:47. On the following possession
Katie Keitges missed a layup but got her own rebound, attempting another layup. After four back-to-back offensive rebounds, Ghaifan would make a layup for Omaha. The Bears would then go up eight points after the Mavericks struggled to sink a shot. A three-pointer by Keitges at 5:18 closed the gap with the Bears to just four.
With an early eight point lead Northern Colorado had set the tone for the first quarter. The Bears were shooting 61.1% in the first, led by Aniah Hall with eight points. They were boosted by four points after three Omaha turnovers in a row. The last basket made in the first quarter was at 2:01 by UNC's Hackley, closing out the quarter 25-11.
Inside the Second Quarter
Ghaifan got the second quarter started with a layup at 9:35. After a defensive rebound by
Deanay Watson,
Grace Cave went up for a jumper and sank it while drawing a shooting foul, and picked up an and-one. Omaha was led by Ghaifan's four points as she went 2-for-2 on field goals and Grant tallied three assists in the second.
Northern Colorado made their first bucket at 8:04 with a jumper in the paint. The Bears got the gap up to 13 points after two back-to-back three-point field goals. To close out the half, Hackley sunk one more from behind the arc to make it 45-30.
Inside the Third Quarter
Ghaifan got the quart started again with free throw at 9:51. Omaha had a strong three minutes scoring seven points, while holding the Bears starting with two free throws by
Aaliyah Stanley. Keitges then scored a jumper after a Bears turnover. Cave made a three-pointer from the corner after the defender in front of her fell over giving her an open look. The run was concluded with another three-pointer by Stanley, assisted by Cave.
Omaha had their best defense in the third, holding the Bears to just 14 points. Northern Colorado responded back to the initial free-throw made at the start of the quarter with a basket from behind the arc. They capped off the third with a layup at 1:08, making it a 59-47 game. Nine of their 14 points come from three-point field goals.
Inside the Fourth Quarter
In the opening minute of the final quarter, Cave made a steal making a fast break. With a pass to Keitges, she made a layup in the paint. At 2:35, Omaha was down by 14. The Mavericks slowly chipped away and got the deficit down to six after a layup and one by Ghaifan. A foul called on Cave broke the rolling momentum and they behind once again, despite their strong effort.
The Bears secured it at the end of the fourth with six free throws in the last 43 seconds. They were led by Hackley in the fourth with nine points off two field goals and four free throws.
