Mavericks Take a Bite Out of the Sharks with 3-2 Victory in Series Opener

The Omaha Mavericks opened up the weekend with a 3-2 victory over the Long Island Sharks on Military Appreciation Night.

Kirby Proctor got the ball rolling this evening when he fired home a shot from the blueline to take a 1-0 lead on the sharks with 7:01 left in the 1st period. Tyler Rollwagen and Jacob Slipec tallied their first assists of the season. Slipec's secondary assist was his first point of the campaign.

36 seconds into the 2nd period, Ty Mueller scored on the power play to extend Omaha's lead to 2-0. It's the second game in a row Mueller has lit the lamp. Matt Miller and Jo Lemay were credited with the helpers.

At the 5:40 mark of the 2nd period, LIU scored their first goal of the game capitalizing on a 4-on-3 power play.

With 4:37 to go in the 2nd period, Jimmy Glynn finished off a perfect tac-tac-toe play from Jack Randl and Brock Bremer to put the Mavericks up 3-1. The power play goal would go on to be the game winning goal as LIU scored with 80 seconds left in regulation to pull within one of Omaha.

Glynn, Miller, Mueller and Randl all extend their point streak to two games after finding the score sheet this evening.

Omaha won the shot and faceoff battle once again. The Mavericks outshot the Sharks 35-20 and outdrew them 32-24. Nolan Sullivan was Omaha's top drawer going 12 of 8 on the dot.

The Mavericks and Sharks will do it all again tomorrow night for the series finale from Baxter Arena. Puck drop slated for 7:07 p.m.
