Goaltending Shines as Miller’s Late Game Winner Lifts Mavericks over Minnesota State

It took 57:20 for the game's first goal in tonight's Omaha versus Minnesota State exhibition contest.

The game winning goal came off the stick of Senior forward Matt Miller after a solid offensive zone forecheck to maintain possession. Miller took control of the puck and sent a backhand shot on net that trickled through five-hole to help secure Omaha's victory over Minnesota State.

While the Mavericks only needed one to cross the goal line tonight, it was Omaha's goaltending that stole the show. Simon Latkoczy and Seth Eisele combined for a 38-save shutout this evening.

In 30:12 of ice time, Latkoczy turned aside 16 shots including multiple highlight reel denies. Taking over just after the midway point of the game, Graduate netminder Seth Eisele saw his first action in a Mavericks sweater of the season. He stopped 22 shots in his Omaha debut with 18 of them coming in the final 20 minutes of regulation. Eisele's stat line included multiple game saving stops and a breakaway save on his brother, Adam, early in the 3rd period.

Special teams came ready to play tonight as they held Minnesota State scoreless in five power play attempts. They allowed only four shots total between two man-advantages.

Omaha will make their regular season debut next week as they host the Niagara Purple Eagles from Baxter Arena. Puck drop slated for 7:07 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night.
