Omaha, Neb. -- At the end of the intense 90 minute match against cross-town rivals, the Creighton Bluejays, the Mavericks walked away with 2-2 draw. After taking the original lead, the Mavericks fell behind by one, but were able to equalize for the end of the contest.
Omaha now stands with a 4-3-3 overall record and remains at 1-0-1 in Summit League play.
How It Happened
• The Mavericks opened the match off strong and had a dominate first half.
• In the 20th minute of the match, the Bluejays took three back-to-back corner kicks in a matter of a minute. The Mavericks fought during each to only allow just one shot on goal.
• On a massive breakaway
Wawa Palga was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty shot.
Theo Klein fired a rocket to the bottom left corner but it was blocked, keeping the match a 0-0.
• Omaha held position of the ball for 53% of the first half, and led shots 9-5 at the end of the first 45.
• During the opening minutes of the second half, the Mavericks drew another penalty in the box for another penalty kick. Klein set up looking for redemption at the line. Klein fired a shot past the goalkeeper to put the first goal on the board in the 51st minute.
• During the penalty kick setup, things got heated and each team was given a red card, making the remaining 39 minutes 10-on-10.
• On a 'Jays corner kick, a Creighton player got a touch on the ball and put the ball just out of
Nathanael Sallah's reach. With their first goal, the game was tied 1-1 in the 52nd minute.
• The Bluejays were awarded another corner kick in the 65th minute, they got another touch off the corner to take the lead 2-1.
• Despite being down, the Mavericks kept fighting.
Naz Astwood brought the ball through midfield and passed it off to
Gonzalo Cuevas. Cuevas found
Junior Casillas at the top right side of the box, where he ripped a shot to the bottom left corner of the goal. Casillas's goal equalized the match and secured a 2-2 draw.

• The Mavericks were just out-shot 18-17.
• Omaha allowed 13 corner kicks, compared to the four they took.
• Klein went 1-2 on the PK, making his season record 4-5.
• Casillas scored his fifth goal of the season and Cuevas notched his third assist.
• Klein and
Ede Gramberg both led the team with four shots each and three on goal.
• Sallah made one save and gave up his first goals of the season.
• Sallah's record now sits at 2-1-0.
