Mavericks Play to Draw with Jackrabbits; Finish Tied for Third in League

Brookings, S.D.— The Mavericks and Jackrabbits played to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in the final match of the Summit League regular season.

Omaha finishes the 2023 regular season with a record of 6-4-6 and 3-1-3 in conference play as the Mavericks secured a share of third place in the Summit League with the draw. Oral Roberts holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Omaha, making the Mavericks the No. 4 seed in this year's Summit League Women's Soccer Championship.

How it Happened

  • Sophia Green looked to have an early goal for the Mavericks in the 14th minute, but Green was called offside after putting the ball into the back of the net.

  • The teams continued to feel each other out through the first 30 minutes. Emma Konsmo made her first save in the 34th minute.

  • South Dakota State struck first with a goal from Jones in the 43rd minute to give the Jacks the lead at half time. (0-1)

  • Out of the break, Omaha built pressure, firing off three shots in the first five minutes of the second half. Cece Behrens fired a rebound chance off target after Emilie Erland had a shot blocked. Just a minute later, Green forced the Jackrabbits' keeper Jocelyn Tanner to make a save.

  • Konsmo did her part in the second half, making her first save of the period in the 52nd minute.

  • In the 66th minute, Grace Ostergaard fed a pass down the sideline for Lauren Schmidt. Schmidt caught the ball and dribbled it towards the center of the field, finding Alyssa Kellar open in the box. Kellar caught the pass, turned towards goal and fired the ball past Tanner to tie the game. (1-1)

  • Konsmo made another great save, punching the ball over her crossbar in the 73rd minute.

  • Three minutes later, Marissa Gohr tested the SDSU goalkeeper with a shot that was saved.

  • Konsmo kept the game tied with saves in the 81st and 86th minutes to end in a 1-1 draw.
