Tommies Roll Past Mavericks

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha closed a two-game road trip at St. Thomas Saturday night. The Tommies remained perfect at home after beating the Mavericks, 80-68.
 
With the loss, Omaha falls to 6-11 overall and 2-3 in league play.
 
Leaders for Omaha
Frankie Fidler led Omaha with 19 points on 7-of 14 from the field. He fell short of his second straight double-double with nine boards. He also led the Mavericks with two steals.
 
JJ White was one-point shy of matching his career high with 17 points. He finished with two rebounds and three assists. Ja'Sean Glover had a career-night with 11 points, while Luke Jungers added 10 points.
 
Leaders for St. Thomas
Andrew Rohde led all-scorers with 24 points on 7-of-16 from the field and 9-of-10 from the line. Rohde also dished out a game-high eight assists.
 
Riley Miller added 18 points and hit all six shots from beyond the arc. Kendall Blue scored 13, while Ryan Dufault recorded 10 points and seven boards off the bench.
 
Team Stats
Omaha shot 41.7 percent on the night, while St. Thomas shot 43.1 percent. The different came from deep as the Tommies put away 11 threes, while the Mavericks only connected on four.
 
The Mavericks dominated the paint, 38-22, and Omaha's bench led, 25-12. The Tommies held an advantage in points off turnovers, second chance points, and fast break points.
 
Inside the First Half
The opening five minutes remained close between Omaha and St. Thomas Saturday night. The first four points went in UST's favor, but Marquel Sutton kept the game within one-point with a three-point play on the other end. Both teams exchanged baskets on their next possessions, and the Mavericks would knot the game 9-9 on a banked in three-pointer from Glover at the 14:47 mark. Over the next seven minutes, the Tommies erupted for a 15-4 run holding the Mavericks off for the double-digit lead in front of their home crowd.
 
Fidler broke up the run with back-to-back layups for Omaha at the 6:52 and 6:23 marks. It sparked an 18-6 run for the Mavericks spanning the next five minutes. In that stretch, Luke Jungers hit two threes from deep. His second three was followed by eight straight points from the hands of Fidler, Dylan Brougham, and White. Despite the late rally from the Mavericks, the Tommies held on to a 38-35 lead at halftime.
 
Inside the Second Half
Both the Mavericks and Tommies struggled in the first four minutes of the second half. Neither team would score until UST nailed back-to-back buckets at the 15:50 and 15:35 marks forcing a Maverick timeout. Glover didn't connect from the field for Omaha until the 14:32 mark. He scored four of the next six Omaha points helping keep it a one possession game.
 
Midway through, White connected on a jumper with 9:44 to play. The Mavericks were within three of the Tommies, but UST responded with an 8-0 run to pull away in double-digits again. Jungers cut the lead to eight twice down the stretch, but the Tommies remained hot from the field and went on to win, 80-68.
 
Game Notes
-Fidler kept his double-figure scoring streak alive and improved it to six straight games.
-Glover put up a career-high 11 points in front of his hometown crowd.
-White missed his career-high by one point.

The Mavericks return to Baxter Arena next week. They start the week's action on Thursday, Jan. 12. Omaha and North Dakota tipoff at 7 p.m.
