Green's Game Winner Downs Bison in Final Seconds

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha earned its first league win of the year Sunday on a game winning goal from Sophia Green in the final seconds of the match. The Bison tied it in the 86th, but the Mavericks didn't give up leading to the 2-1 victory.

Omaha improves to 2-6-3 overall, 1-0-1 in the Summit League.

How It Happened
  • The Bison had an early shot on goal in the seventh minute of action, but it was their only close attempt of the half that ended in an Omaha save.
  • Marissa Gohr countered for the Mavericks in the 16th minute with a header off a corner kick that was punched away for a save in goal.
  • In the 20th minute, Cece Behrens passed the ball from in the box to the top where Meg Nemnich struck hard, Her shot ricocheted off the post back to Behrens. Behrens caught the Bison off-guard and netted the first goal of the match.
  • Olivia Watson had an attempt in the 23rd minute that hit the top woodwork, while Grace Ostergaard tallied one more on goal in the 43rd. Omaha took a 1-0 edge into halftime.
  • The first shot on goal of the second half found the back of the net for NDSU. Paige Goaley headed the ball into the box for Kelsey Kallio who sent it low left beating the keeper in the 85th minute.
  • The Mavericks remained composed in the final five minutes getting two wide open looks from Gohr and Green.
  • It wasn't until under the final minute that Maggie Gunderson regained control at midfield and fed the ball to Green who went one-on-one into the box. Green took the strike that deflected off the keeper's hand into the top left of the net for the game winner. Omaha wins, 2-1.

  • Omaha led on shots, 17-13.
  • Green and Behrens each notched a career-high five shots in the match.
  • Green's goal was her first of the season.
  • Behrens now leads the Mavericks with two this season.
  • Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen earned the win. She improves to 2-5-3 and made one save.
