Eden, Utah- The Omaha women's golf team has a share of fifth place after two rounds of the Kelsey Chugg Invitational at Weber State.
The Mavericks got off to a rocky start with a team score of 310 in round one. They climbed up the leaderboard in round two, ending with a total of 303 and a share of fifth place with Montana State, deadlocked at 613. In fourth place is host Weber State with a two-round total of 606. Ahead of the Wildcats and on the podium in third is Utah Tech with a team score of 602. Montana State has a total of 601 and sits nine strokes behind Creighton, in first with 592.
Omaha sank 25 birdies over the first two rounds to lead the event in that category. Leading all players with eight birdies and currently sharing 15th place is Emily Karmazin. The freshman recorded a two-round total of 151 (+7) with a 78 (+6) in the first round and a 73 (+1) that included six birdies in the second round.
One stroke ahead of Karmazin and leading all Mavericks is Sydney Taake. The sophomore shares 12th place with a day-one score of 150 (+6). Taake got started with a 76 (+4) in round one, improving with a 74 (+2) and four birdies in round two.
Nicole Hansen and Mika Miyata end day one with scores of 157 and 158, respectively. Hansen, the graduate student, is tied for 35th place as she began with an 80 in the first round before posting a 77 (+5) in the second. Miyata, the junior, shot matching scores of 79 (+7) in the first two rounds and shares 37th place.
Freshman Macarena Garcia shot a 77 (+5) in round one before notching an 83 In round two. Garcia ends the day in 46th place with a total score of 160. Golfing individually in her first event of the season, sophomore Emma Kirvan shot an 80 in the first round and a 90 in the second, ending the day with a total score of 170.
