Mavericks Drop Home Opener

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks netted the first goal in Thursday's home opener vs. the Scarlet Knights. It wasn't enough to outlast Rutgers who went on to win, 4-2.

The Mavericks fall to 0-1-0 on the year.

How It Happened
  • Thursday's match started out in Omaha's favor with back-to-back saves from Nathanael Sallah in the sixth minute. 
  • Ede Gramberg then struck, making it a 1-0 Maverick lead. Mathis Pilon St-Louis crossed into the box where Gramberg used one touch to beat the keeper in the ninth minute.
  • Rutgers evened the match three minutes later. MD Myers flicked a goal off a pair of assists from Pablo Avila and Nico Rosamilia.
  • In the 17th minute, Myers set up for a penalty kick following a foul by Omaha in the Box. Myers found the back of the net for a quick 2-1 Rutgers' lead.
  • Tevin Rochester attempted to even the match 2-2 in the 18th minute, but Dalton Ciaran made the stop.
  • The Scarlet Knights tallied another goal in the 22nd minute. Avila grabbed the ball off a deflection and put it in off the left post. It was 3-1 Rutgers in the 23rd minute.
  • Gramberg had one more shot on goal in the first half for the Mavericks, but the half ended in Rugters' favor.
  • It didn't take long out of the break for the Scarlet Knights to connect for their fourth goal. Ian Abbey fired one from five yards out of the box for the 4-1 lead.
  • In the 67th minute, Dominik Danis cut the lead to two with a goal off a free kick from Gonzalo Cuevas.
  • Neither team would get another shot in the half. Rutgers went on to win 4-2.

Inside the Box
  • Rutgers outshot the Mavericks, 19-10. The Scarlet Knights led 9-4 on shots on goal.
  • Gramberg recorded his first career goal, while St-Louis and Cuevas tallied their first ever assists.
  • Danis' goal was the second of his career.
  • Gramberg led the Mavericks with two shots on goal.
  • Sallah made five saves in goal and falls to 0-1-0.
