Three Mavericks Garner Ace Award

Jun 2, 2022

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha athletics honors student-athletes with the Ace Award when achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout their undergraduate career. In April, the department honored three seniors, Sydney Haynes, Kaitlyn Guhl, and Sadie Limback, with the award following their perfect careers in the classroom.

"It is not a easy feat to manage the demands of being a student athlete," said Lindsey Ekwerekwu, senior associate athletic director for academic success and student-athlete development. "Sydney, Kaitlyn, and Sadie stayed committed to their work and ultimately achieved perfection in the classroom, while still competing at a high level and making an impact in the pool, on the field, and on the court for their programs. We couldn't be more proud of their success and know their futures are bright."

From Omaha swimming & diving, Haynes finished her career with a 4.0 GPA earning her degree in biology. She earned Academic All-League honors from the Summit League following the 2020-21 season. She is also a four-time member of the Summit League Honor Roll and Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence. In addition to the academic success, Haynes posted five top-10 individual finishes this season seeing action in 18 different events.

"What Sydney has done is something very rare among any college student, and we are very proud of her obtaining this amazing accomplishment," said head coach Todd Samland. "She has done it all from putting in the time at a Division I swim & dive program, to completing her biology degree in four years, and always being a great teammate. UNC-Chapelhill is going to be her next success story!"

From Omaha women's soccer, Guhl posted a 4.0 as a biomechanics major. She was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and was named to the Summit League Academic All-League Team twice. She is also a member of the Summit League Honor Roll and Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence. Guhl missed last season due to injury, but she helped Omaha to 10 shutouts as a junior defender and recorded an assist at Denver.

"Katie was an exceptional student athlete here at Omaha," said head coach Tim Walters. "It's an incredible accomplishment to achieve a 4.0 in college, and even more impressive to do it while participating at the Division I level of athletics. She was a very important player for us that we are going to miss. We are so proud of her accomplishment and can't wait to see what she achieves next."

From Omaha volleyball, Limback boasted a 4.0 GPA as a kinesiology major. She was named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team making her the first Division I player in program history to earn the honor. Limback was also a three-time Academic All-Summit award winner, and she was a member of the Summit League Honor Roll and Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence.

"This is one more impressive achievement in an impressive four years for Sadie," said head coach Matt Buttermore. "Earning all "A's" in a difficult major, while also competing at a high level on the court – simply amazing."
