Big KU Inning Spoils Midweek Game for Omaha

Omaha's final midweek game against Kansas got off to a rousing start.

Former Maverick football coach and KU alum Sandy Buda threw out a ceremonial first pitch, and Omaha catcher Eduardo Rosario lined a three-run homer over the left-field fence to stake his team to a 3-0 lead.

The Mavericks (20-21) did little after that. The Jayhawks (19-27) sent 13 batters to the plate during a nine-run third inning and cruised to an 11-3 victory over Omaha Wednesday at Tal Anderson Field.

Kansas, which dropped its first two meetings with the Mavericks, racked up 14 total hits while getting at least one from every player in its starting lineup. It had seven hits in the third inning alone to go up 9-3.

Omaha, meanwhile, managed only three hits after the Rosario home run. Among them was an infield single by third baseman Mike Boeve in the third inning that extended his hitting streak to 18 games.

The Mavericks, who shut out the Jayhawks 9-0 Tuesday, loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth while down by eight runs but failed to score.

Reliever Stone Hewlett (2-1) got the win for Kansas. Omaha starter Parker Weddle (0-1) suffered the loss.
