OMAHA, Neb. - For the sixth consecutive semester, the Mavericks posted a cumulative 3.40 GPA in the classroom following the completion of the spring semester. It also marks the 10th straight academic year of earning a 3.30 GPA or higher.
Eight-two percent of the department's student-athletes posted a 3.0 GPA or higher in the spring, and 52 percent of those athletes earned Dean's list and/or Chancellor's list honors. Student-athletes must earn at least a 3.5 GPA for Dean's list honors and a 4.0 GPA for the Chancellor's List.
"Our student-athletes achieved another stellar semester in the classroom this spring achieving their 10th consecutive semester with at least a 3.30 GPA," said
Lindsey Ekwerekwu, senior associate athletic director for academic success and student-athlete development. "After a challenging two years, the student-athletes persevered and continued to balance their responsibility on and off the playing field. Their performance is indicative of the types of student-athletes our coaches recruit: quality young adults who proudly represent our institution and are committed to success. We are appreciative to the coaches, support staff, and our campus faculty who support our Mavericks and their academic success."
The women's tennis squad led the department for the second consecutive semester with a 3.80 GPA. Women's swimming & diving and softball followed closely behind with a 3.77 and 3.76 GPA, respectively.
On the men's side, men's golf led the way with a 3.63 GPA, while men's tennis finished with a 3.53.
With 13 Dean's List and five Chancellor's List honorees, softball led the way with 82 percent of its roster earning the honor. Women's swimming & diving has 80 percent of its roster recognized, while women's tennis, women's soccer, cross country, track & field, men's golf, and men's soccer had over 70 percent of their athletes named to the Dean's List and/or Chancellor's List for the spring.
