GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Omaha took major step toward qualifying for the Summit League Championship by picking up a thrilling 4-3 road victory over North Dakota at Choice Health and Fitness on Saturday.
The Mavericks won the last two singles matches to edge the Fighting Hawks in the match and move past them in the conference standings. Omaha advanced into fourth place at 3-2 while UND dropped to 3-3.

Adam Summitt said. "This has to be one of the best matches we have played during my time here. It had everything you could want from a collegiate match."
Omaha clinched its victory when
Alexia Di Giulio outlasted North Dakota's Andrea Jansson in a second-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles with the team score deadlocked at 3-3. The Mavericks were down 3-2 until
Rachel Osborn wrapped up her 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Angela Georgieva at No. 6 singles.
Natalie Lorentz and
Keegan VanPelt opened the day with a 6-4 win for Omaha at No. 3 doubles. The Mavericks then clinched the point when
Madison Gallegos and
Ines Absisan won in the No. 1 spot.
North Dakota bounced back to take three of the first four singles matches to finish. Then Omaha rallied.
"We battled back and had to earn it today," Summitt said. "I am So incredibly proud of the ladies for fighting until the end. We know what we have to do, and we will continue to go out and do it."
The Mavericks wrap up the regular season by hosting Western Illinois and then going to South Dakota next weekend. The top four teams in the final standings advance to the championship event in Omaha.
