Lorentz Sets Wins Mark as Omaha Clinches Top-Four Finish

Omaha's final home match of the regular season became a special one.

Natalie Lorentz became the program's all-time leader in career victories and the Mavericks clinched a spot in next weekend's Summit League championships in Omaha with a 7-0 win over Western Illinois.

Lorentz won both her singles and doubles matches Friday at Mircale Hill Tennis Center to push her career victory total to 121. She and Keegan VanPelt picked up a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles as the Mavericks secured that team point. Then Lorentz took her match at No. 5 singles in straight sets.

"I'm just unbelievably proud of Natalie," Omaha coach Adam Summitt said. "To break the program records for wins is amazing. She has been a rock for us in the lineup for the last five years. She's worked really hard to achieve this, and I couldn't be more proud of her."

Four other Mavericks – Madison Gallegos, Alexia Di Giulio, Ines Absisan and Addison Miller – also won their singles matches in straight sets. VanPelt finished the sweep for Omaha when she came out on top in a third-set tiebreaker.

The team victory improved the Mavericks to 4-2 in conference play, meaning they can finish no worse than fourth in the final league standings. The top four teams qualify for the championships next week.

Omaha wraps up its regular season at South Dakota on Sunday.

"Great win today," Summitt said. "The ladies were extremely professional today, being very efficient and getting off courts quickly. [It was a] good win to get ready for Sunday."
