SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Summit League Championship after wrapping up its regular season with a 5-2 loss to South Dakota at Huether Family Match Pointe.
The Mavericks (12-10) finished in a fourth-place tie in the final conference standings with North Dakota at 4-3, but they made the tournament by holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Fighting Hawks.
Omaha will face top-seeded Denver at 12 p.m. Friday at the Koch Family Tennis Center in the opening round of the two-day event. Second-seeded Oral Roberts meets South Dakota in the other semifinal.
The Coyotes secured the No. 3 seed with Sunday's win over the Mavericks. USD claimed the first five team points in the match. Omaha's two points came from singles wins by
Ines Absisan and
Rachel Osborn, both of whom won in third-set tiebreakers.
Natalie Lorentz and
Keegan VanPelt won their No. 3 doubles match also, but South Dakota claimed the doubles point by taking the other two matches.
