Mavericks Blank Tommies, 8-0

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Omaha earned another series win with an 8-0 shutout vs. St. Thomas Saturday morning. Kamryn Meyer and Sydney Hampton combined for a one-hitter and 14 strikeouts in the circle.

With the win, Omaha improves to 19-12 overall and 8-4 in league play.

How It Happened
  • Izzy Eltze pulled a repeat of yesterday homering over the right field fence on the first pitch of the game.
  • Omaha doubled the lead in the second with back-to-back hits from Jaelle Johnson and Sydney Ross. Johnson singled and crossed home on Ross's double to left field.
  • The Mavericks then plated three runs on four hits in the third inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Lynsey Tucker, Racel Weber, and J. Johnson all recorded RBI singles to increase the lead.
  • In the fifth inning, Taylor Johnson made the most of her pinch hit. She sent a double to center sending J. Johnson and Olivia Aden across the plate for a 7-0 edge.
  • The Mavericks added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. It was Lexi Burkhardt's turn to homer. 
  • The Tommies recorded their first hit in the bottom of the seventh, but Omaha held on for an 8-0 win.
Inside the Box Score
  • Meyer earned her 10th shutout in the circle. She retired eight batters in four innings of work and improves to 14-5 overall.
  • Hampton tallied six strikeouts.
  • J. Johnson finished 3-for-3 at the plated with one RBI and two runs scored in her first career start.
  • The Mavericks finished with 10 total hits. Eltze was the only other player to tally multiple. She finished with two on the day.
