LINCOLN, Neb. – Omaha pushed Nebraska for the doubles point Wednesday.
Once singles play began, however, the No. 49 Huskers proved to be a bit too much.
Nebraska won every singles match in straight sets in its 7-0 win over the Mavericks.
Natalie Lorentz and
Keegan VanPelt picked up a 6-3 victory for Omaha over Maja Makoric and Ellie Kuckelman at No. 2 doubles. The Huskers, who had already won in the No. 3 spot, claimed the doubles point when Isabel Gallego and Chloe Kuckelman edged
Ines Absisan and
Alexia Di Giulio 6-4 at No. 1.
Nebraska then swept through the singles competition.
Still, Omaha coach
Adam Summitt said he liked what he saw from his squad.
"We competed really well today," he said. "We put ourselves in a position to win a lot of games and sets. The girls really battled well. Nebraska was just too good in key points and knew how to finish.
"[I'm] Proud of the fight, especially from a few girls who haven't had the chance to play as often. [We're] looking forward to building on the positives next week in San Antonio."
