EDINBURG, Texas – Omaha recorded two singles wins in its opening match in Texas Sunday.

The Mavericks got victories from Addison Miller and Brooke Covington at Nos. 5 and 6 singles in their 5-2 loss to UTRGV at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. Miller topped Valeria Montero 7-5 in the third set.

Ines Absisan and Keegan VanPelt also went to a third set in their matches in the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. Both fell 6-3 in the decisive set after splitting the first two.

Absisan and Madison Gallegos were leading their No. 1 doubles match when the Vaqueros clinched the doubles point with wins in the other two spots.

"[It was a] rough one today," Omaha coach Adam Summitt said. "We had a few things thrown at us that weren't in our control. The girls did a great job handling it and going out there and playing as best as they could."
