Drake To Compete at NCAA Zone D Diving Championships

Mar 4, 2022

MADISON, Wis. - Omaha diver Darby Drake will compete at the Zone D NCAA Diving Championships Monday after qualifying earlier this season. The event is hosted by Wisconsin.

Drake will participate in the 1M-diving event. Prelims begin Monday at 11 a.m. and feature 56 divers. Eighteen will advance to the finals beginning at 2:40 p.m.

"It's been three years since we've had someone represent the Mavericks at a Zone meet," said diving coach Eric Sprague. "Darby qualified as a freshman but with our conference schedule being pushed back to April last season, we decided to forego zones to focus on the Summit League Championships. We're looking forward to watching Darby compete with some of the top divers in the country, and this opportunity will allow her to see how she measures up."

The sophomore diver qualified for the event with a zone score of 272.35 at St. Thomas back on Jan. 22. She placed first in the event helping lead the Mavericks to a win in the meet.

In 1M events, Drake also led the Mavericks vs. UNI with a score of 246.68, vs. Nebraska with a score of 263.63, and vs. South Dakota State with a score of 237.68.

"I've enjoyed working with Darby through this season, and her focus the last few weeks will serve her well in this exciting environment. I think Darby will represent the program well with her fun and competitive attitude in Madison. She's put the work in and now it's time to get after it."
