SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Omaha continued its strong start to the season on Sunday by claiming its second road win.
The Mavericks, now 5-1, earned three singles wins and the doubles point in a 4-3 victory over Missouri State at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
Freshman
Keegan VanPelt clinched the match for Omaha when she topped Kate Miley in straight sets at No. 5 singles. She also teamed up with
Natalie Lorentz for a win at No. 3 doubles to help the Mavericks grab an early lead on the Bears.
Ines Absisan and
Rachel Osborn were also victorious at No. 1 doubles.
Madison Gallegos and
Brooke Covington also posted straight-set wins at No. 1 and 4 singles, respectively, for the Mavericks in their second victory over a Missouri Valley Conference foe this season.
"We continue to have great depth and strong showings," Omaha coach
Adam Summitt said. "This was a battle. The matches were a lot closer than the scores indicate.
"Doubles was tight, but we did a good job finishing when it was needed. In singles, we stepped up much quicker than Friday and played more aggressively."
