GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Omaha answered an early North Dakota goal and outshot the Fighting Hawks 27-20 at Ralph Engelstad Arena Friday. It wasn't enough to offset a three-goal second by UND in a 4-1 loss.
Brandon Scanlin's shot from the point beat North Dakota goalie Zach Driscoll during a power play to pull the No. 16 Mavericks (16-11) even with the 12th-ranked Fighting Hawks (15-10-1) after one period. But North Dakota forged ahead when Mark Senden scored a goal and set up another in the middle stanza.
The Fighting Hawks tacked on an Ethan Frisch goal during a 5-on-3 power play near the end of the second to cap the scoring. Omaha came close on numerous scoring chances as it tried to mount a rally.
Scanlin hit the post with another shot from out front.
Taylor Ward clipped the crossbar on a blast from the slot. And UND's Cooper Moore saved a goal when he cleared a puck that was trickling near the line.
Omaha fell to 6-9 in National Collegiate Hockey Conference play while UND improved to 10-4-1.
