Mavericks Fall at South Dakota State

OMAHA, Neb. – Three Mavericks scored double-figures Saturday night in Omaha's 82-61 loss at South Dakota State. Nick Ferrarini led off the bench with 14 points.
 
The Mavericks fall to 4-22 overall and 3-12 in Summit League action.
 
Leaders for Omaha
Ferrarini led the Mavericks off the bench with 14 points. He went 4-of-11 from the field with two three-pointers. Darrius Hughes added another 11 points off the bench. Frankie Fidler scored 10 and finished with two threes.
 
Dylan Brougham notched a new career-high and game-high 10 rebounds. Felix Lemetti tallied four assists.
 
Leaders for South Dakota State
Zeke Mayo scored a game-leading 21 points. He finished 8-of-11 from the field and hit five threes. Douglas Wilson added 19 points, while Luke Apel recorded 12.
 
Baylor Scheierman grabbed a team-best eight rebounds and six assists.
 
Team Stats
The Mavericks shot 39 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from three-point range. The Jackrabbits shot over 52 percent from the field and hit 10 threes on the night.
 
SDSU held a 40-26 advantage in the paint, but the Maverick bench outscored the Jackrabbit bench, 25-19.
 
Inside the First Half
Wilson put the first points on the board for SDSU Saturday night. It was quickly matched by Arop on the opposite end with a putback layup for the Mavericks. Omaha then took a quick 8-4 lead following two consecutive threes from Fidler with just under 17 minutes to play. Omaha led 10-8 with a jumper from Darrius Hughes at the 14:52 mark, but SDSU responded with a 10-0 run to swing the lead in its favor.
 
Arop ended a scoreless streak for the Mavericks with a bucket with 9:45 to play. Mayo answered right back with a three-pointer sparking another 8-0 run for SDSU. Ferrarini broke up the hot shooting Jackrabbits with five Omaha points, but back-to-back threes from Mayo and Scheierman ignited another SDSU onslaught of 13 straight points. The Jackrabbits took a 44-19 lead into the break.
 
Inside the Second Half
Lemetti and Fidler put a quick five points on the board for Omaha out of the halftime break, but the Jackrabbits slowly built their lead to 29 points seven minutes in on a layup from Appel. The Jackrabbits kept their lead above 20-points until a three from Ferrarini with 4:34 on the clock cut it down to 19. Arop made it 17 on the next trip down the court. It wasn't enough for a late rally, and SDSU won, 82-61.
 
Noting Tonight's Game
-Brougham is the second player to notch a double-figure rebounding game with 10 boards this season.
-Tonight marked Ferrarini's 14th, Hughes' 14th, and Fidler's 15th game in double-figures.

The Mavericks return home next week for senior night. Omaha will play Denver for its final home game of the season on Thursday, February 17. Tipoff is 7 p.m. at Baxter Arena
