Omaha Upsets SDSU, Advances to Championship Match

Brookings, S.D. - The Mavericks advanced to the Summit League championship match with a 1-0 win vs. South Dakota State Saturday afternoon. Grace Ostergaard scored the game-winner in the 17th minute, while Emma Konsmo stepped up in goal for the clean sheet and six saves.

Omaha improves to 7-8-5 overall.

How It Happened
  • The first half success was all Omaha Sunday afternoon. Between the offensive attack and in goal, the Mavericks came out on top in the first 45.
  • Like many matches before, the Mavericks found the back of the net off a corner kick. Grace Crockett and Grace Ostergaard connected for the first goal of the match. Crockett passed into the box and found Ostergaard's head for the goal in the 17th minute.
  • SDSU tallied three more on target before the half expired, but the Mavericks held on to a 1-0 lead at the break. Emma Konsmo made four saves, including one in the final second to keep a clean sheet for Omaha.
  • SDSU felt the pressure in the second half as the clock ticked down and out-shot Omaha 14-3 in the final 45 minutes.
  • The Jackrabbits had back-to-back looks in the 63rd minute, but Konsmo continued to reign supreme in goal.
  • Emilie Erland almost doubled the lead in the 80th minute, but Jocelyn Tanner tallied her first save of the match.
  • In the final three minutes, SDSU set up for a corner kick. It would be the Jacks' last solid attempt of the match, but it went high over the net.
  • The Mavericks held on for the 1-0 shutout to advance to the Summit League championship.

Inside the Box Score
  • This marks the third time under head coach Tim Walters the Mavericks have advanced to the championship match. The last time the Mavericks played for the title was in the 2020 season. Omaha faced the top seeded Denver at Caniglia Field.
  • Ostergard's goal was her second of the season.
  • Crockett gets her fifth assist.
  • Konsmo logged a full game between the posts and earned the shutout. She made six stops.
