Omaha Preps For Kansas City

The Basics
The Mavericks and Roos will meet Monday night to make up a game from Dec. 30 that was postponed due to COVID protocols. Omaha split the weekend with a win vs. North Dakota on Thursday and a close loss to North Dakota State Saturday. Kansas City hasn't seen the floor since Dec. 22 when the Roos opened league play vs. South Dakota with a win.

Quick Hits
• Omaha dropped a close game vs. North Dakota State Saturday, 71-67. The Mavericks led by two at halftime and cut the Bison lead to two five different times in the final 20 seconds of the game, but they couldn't rally for the win.
Nick Ferrarini led the Mavericks with 12 points off the bench, while Frankie Fidler extended his double-figure scoring streak to five games with 10 points.
Marco Smith tallied a career-high four steals.
• The Mavericks combined for a season-high 98 points in their win vs. North Dakota Thursday. Six players led the team with double-figure scoring efforts, which was the first time more than four players put up 10+ points in a game this year.
• Fidler led the way with 16 points on 7-of-9 from the field. Felix Lemetti (15), Darrius Hughes (14), Nick Ferrarini (13), Smith (12), and Kyle Luedtke (11) were the remaining five Mavericks to notch at least 10 on the night.
• Smith tallied a career-high seven assists and two steals vs. UND. He also grabbed four boards.
• In conference action, Omaha sits fourth in the league averaging 79.3 ppg. The Mavericks are in the middle of the pack shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from three.
• The Mavericks have also crashed the boards well in league games and average a second-best 36.5 rpg of the 10 teams.
• Omaha's 13.25 apg average in league play sits atop the charts. Smith is averaging 4.5 apg in the first four games of conference play to lead the entire league, while Lemetti sits tied for sixth with 3.5 apg.
• Omaha dropped a league game to Oral Roberts last week after postponing a game with Kansas City. The game with Kansas City was rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. on the road.
• Fidler led the Mavericks with 15 points. It marked his third straight game in double-figures and sixth on the season.
• Smith grabbed a career-high 6 rebounds in the game, while Luedtke tallied a personal best four assists.
• Lemetti hit two three-pointers at ORU Saturday night. He sits 54th in the country with 38 three-pointers made this season. He's also in the top-100 shooting 38.4 percent from deep.
• Lemetti also represents the Mavericks on the Summit League leaderboards. Overall, he sits sixth in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.384) and in conference play, Lemetti is ninth shooting 34.4 percent from the arc over four games.
• Head coach Derrin Hansen enters his 17th season at the helm. He has a 251-248 career record leading the Mavericks.
• The 2021-22 season is the 109th overall in program history and the 11th of the Mavericks' Division I era. All-time, the program is 1,205-1,335.

Scouting the Kansas City Roos
The Roos are 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the Summit League as conference action picks up. They split the opening weekend of league play with a win vs. South Dakota and loss to South Dakota State. In the non-conference portion of the schedule, Kansas City earned wins vs. Green Bay, Calvary Bible, Idaho State, Kansas Christian, and Missouri.

Three players manage to average over 10 points per game. Evann Gilyard II leads the squad with 12.8 ppg, while Josiah Allick adds 11.7. Allick leads the Roos shooting 54.3 percent from the field. Arkel Lamar scored 11 points per game to round out the scoring efforts.

Billy Donlon is in his third season as head coach of Kansas City. With the Roos, Donlon sits with a 33-33 overall record. He's complied a career record of 142-127 over his nine seasons as a head coach.

All-Time Against Kansas City
Omaha leads the all-time series 8-6. The Roos took both meetings last season. In game one, Ferrarini was one of six Mavericks to tally points. He finished with seven on the  night. Six more currently active Mavericks got on the board in game two led by Wanjang Tut who scored six in the loss.
