Omaha, NE. – Mariah Murdie drained a last-second three to force overtime, but the Omaha Mavericks came up short in Kansas City 68-65, Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks fall to 6-14 and 2-9 in Summit League play.
Leaders For Omaha
Alexis Pratt scored a career-high 17 points in the loss including a perfect five for five from the charity stripe, while dishing out a team-best four assists.
Sophie Johnston joined her in double digits with 10 points including two shots from beyond the arc.
Leaders for Kansas City
Naomie Alnatas and Brooklyn McDavid led the way for the Roos. Alnatas scored a team-best 20 points while dishing out a team-high five assists. McDavid chipped in 14 points while Paige Bradford scored nine and hauled in a team-high 16 rebounds.
Team Stats
Omaha outshot the Roos with a 42.6 (26-61) percent mark, while shooting a perfect nine for nine from the charity stripe. The Roos shot 38.1 (24-63) percent from the field and drained seven threes and outrebounded the Mavericks 45-32.
Inside the First Quarter
The Roos got out to the lead at home pulling ahead 11-7 behind five points from Alnatas. The Mavericks would tie the game up at 13 with a
Grace Cave jumper. Later a
Josie Filer jumper before the end of the quarter cut the Kansas City lead to 16-15.
Inside the Second Quarter
Omaha scored six quick points to start the second quarter including jump shots from Cave, Pratt, and Johnston to take a 21-19 lead. The two teams traded buckets to end the break with the Roos taking the 30-29 lead into the break.
Inside the Third Quarter
Both teams traded buckets for much of the third quarter before the Mavericks ended the period on a 9-3 run including seven points from Pratt. Omaha would take a 49-47 lead heading into the fourth.
Inside the Fourth Quarter
Layups from
Mariah Murdie and Pratt gave the Mavericks a one point lead with 4:59 left in the game. The Roos would score five straight before a
Katie Keitges three cut the deficit to one. The Roos would pull ahead 63-60 with nine seconds remaining. After a Cave three pointer was blocked the MAvericks got one more opportunity to tie the game and Murdie delivered with a corner three to force overtime.
Inside Overtime
Both teams were fairly cold in the extra period. After an early Murdie bucket the Roos would score the remaing five points of overtime to take the 68-65 victory after the MAvericks were unable to get up an attempt before the buzzer.

The Mavericks will host North Dakota State on Thursday Feb. 3 at Baxter Arena with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
