Mavericks Wrap Up Regular Season At Coyote Invite

VERMILLION, S.D. – The Mavericks wrapped up the Coyote Invite and the regular season Saturday afternoon. Omaha saw action in 20 events over the course of the day.
 
"This was a very good meet for us this week," said head coach Todd Samland. "It gives us a chance to sharpen our racing skills. Another benefit is to be able to race some alternative events and challenge ourselves in different ways."
 
Omaha's day two action resumes in the men's 400-IM Saturday. Kyle Peterson led the pack with a fifth-place finish and a time of 4:24.22. Bethany Gatlin led the women with a time of 4:55.33 good enough for sixth place.
 
Daniel Young tallied third in the 200-free with a time of 1:42.95. Gracie Streblow earned fourth for the Mavericks with a time of 1:56.95.
 
In the 100-breast, Brandon Cheong and Chas Nolte finished back-to-back. Cheong placed fourth with a time of 59.23, while Nolte was fifth with a time of 59.41. for the women, Abbey Mitchell placed 11th with a time of 1:11.15.
 
Kody Hollingsworth picked up the first top finish of the day with a time of 49.98 in the 100-back. Streblow earned second for the women with a time of 57.24.
 
Lilly Stafford took fifth in the 1650-free with a time of 19:29.93. Gatlin trailed in sixth with a time of 19:41.84.
 
Young earned another first-place finish for Omaha in the 100-IM. He swam a time of 50.99.
 
In the 200-back, Peterson recorded a time of 2:02.43 for second on the men's side. Parker Hagemann led the women to eighth with a time of 2:16.36.
 
Young and Hollingsworth took first and second in the 100-free. Young's time of 45.19 was the top time, while Hollingsworth swam 45.70 for second. Streblow finished third for Omaha on the women's side with a time of 52.80.
 
Peterson led the Mavericks in another event. This time he swam a time of 2:14.19 in the 200-breast for sixth place. Mitchell placed fourth with a time of 2:32.21 for the women.
 
For the men, Hollingsworth earned third in the 200-fly with a time of 1:57.01, which closed the meet for the Mavericks.
 
Omaha will compete at the conference championships in Fargo, North Dakota Feb. 16-19.
 
"It is now time for us to start fine tuning at practice as we prepare for our conference championships in February."
