OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha diving teams hung back in town this weekend and hosted UNI for a meet Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
Darby Drake and
Ian Blackstock led the Mavericks on both events.
"This was a good tune-up competition heading into conference for the crew," said diving coach
Eric Sprague. "I'm impressed with the determination our returning women have shown, as well as the leadership they've provided for the men's program in their initial season. Today's competition was excellent, and I like that I see some confidence building with this young group."
The day opened with the women's 3M-diving event. Drake placed second with a score of 251.33 and was the highest placing Maverick.
Kady Eller finished in third with a score of 244.73.
In the men's 1M-diving event, Blackstock,
David Goodwin, and Wesley Thompson took the top-three finishes. Blackstock led the way with a score of 251.78 for first.
Drake took first for the women in the 1M-dive. Her score of 246.68 narrowly claimed the top spot over UNI. Jillian Cooper earned third, while Eller took fourth.
In the men's 3M-diving event, Blackstock earned another first place finish with a score of 258.45. Goodwin and Thompson took second and third, respectively.
"Kady, Reece, Darby, Lexie, Holly, Wesley, David and Ian know what they need to focus on as we head into the final phase of season. I'm looking forward to a fun and competitive Summit Conference Championship February 16-19."
The Mavericks will prepare for the Summit League Championships held in Fargo, North Dakota Feb. 16-19.
