VERMILLION, S.D. – The Mavericks returned to action Friday night in the first night of the Coyote Invite. Omaha saw action in seven of the 12 events.
"This is a fun meet for us to be at as we prepare for conference championships in a little over two weeks," said head coach
Todd Samland. "I thought our team performed really well tonight considering some of our races were very tight turnaround times. We had numerous people with season best times. We are looking for some good swims in the two sessions tomorrow."
Omaha first finishes of the night came in the women's 500-free in event three of the night.
Parker Hagemann led the Mavericks with a time of 5:35.10 for 13
th place, while
Abbey Mitchell closely followed at 5:42.44.
In the 100-fly,
Sadie Khalil then led the Omaha women with a time of 1:01.53.
Lilly Stafford and
Alanna Becker also swam in the event.
For the men,
Elijah Clements,
Daniel Young, and
Kody Hollingsworth took first, second, and third place in the 100-fly. Clements led with a time of 49.49, while Young swam 50.11 and Hollingsworth 50.42. Young's time was a season best.
Olivia Wassink added her name to the mix in the 200-IM. She placed fifth to lead the Mavericks with a time of 2:14.26 for a season best time.
Bethany Gatlin also placed in the top-15 with a time of 2:16.82.
Luke Asbury led Omaha in the 200-IM on the men's side with a time of 1:59.23.
Kyle Peterson trailed in eighth with a time of 1:59.23.
In the 50-free,
Gracie Streblow picked up second with a time of 24.37, while Wassink placed third with a time of 24.44. Hagemann earned 10
th with a time of 25.03.
Young and Hollingsworth earned first and second in the 50-free. Young swam a time of 20.13, while Hollingsworth swam a time of 20.66.
Logan Kempf,
Brandon Cheong, and Clements placed ninth, 10
th, and 11
th, respectively.
Action at the Coyote Invite wraps up tomorrow. Events start at 10 a.m. in Vermillion.
