OMAHA, Neb. - Sophomore forward
Sophia Green netted the golden goal for Omaha Sunday night 15 seconds into the overtime period. With the goal, the Mavericks defeated visiting Northern Colorado, 1-0.
Omaha improves to 3-2 on the year.
How It Happened
- Grace Crockett and Emilie Erland forced early shots for the Mavericks setting a fast offensive pace out of the gates for the Mavericks. Erland's shot at the 3:22 mark forced a save.
- Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen made her first stop on goal at the 10:59 mark with a high shot on target from Haley O'Nan. Erland and Green responded with back-to-back shots on goal that wouldn't connect for the Mavericks.
- Reedtz and Morgan Bury each faced one more shot on target before the half resulted in a 0-0 draw at the break.
- Sena Ahovissi fired a hard shot on goal from the top of the box seven minutes into the second half, but Bury made the save. It would be the only shot on goal in the half, and the Mavericks faced their first overtime of the season.
- Green only needed 15 seconds to net the game winner. Regan Zimmers set up for a free kick following a yellow card. Her pass into the box set Green up on the right side for a golden touch to the low left of the goal. Omaha wins 1-0.
