Elmi Scores in Omaha's Loss to Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa - Despite a late goal from Malik Elmi, the Mavericks dropped a road match at Drake Friday night, 2-1. The Bulldogs used two first-half goals to earn the win.

Omaha falls to 0-3-0 on the year.

How It Happened
  • It didn't take long for the Bulldogs to strike and gain an early 1-0 lead over the Mavericks. With the first strike of the game, Jaden Stevenson found the back of the net. Declan Waters played the ball into the box for Stevenson who used a quick touch sending the ball low right into the goal.
  • Hugo Kametani tallied Omaha's first two shots. Less than three minutes after the goal, Kametani struck with a shot blocked inside the box. Then at the 20:32 mark, Kametani sent a shot just north of the crossbar.
  • Drake went up 2-0 at the 33:42 mark. This time Jaffer Murphy connected for the Bulldogs on a pass from Louis Yuill low into the box.
  • Ed Port forced Omaha's first shot on goal in the 37th minute, but Jared Brown made a low stop in goal for Drake to keep a clean sheet. Drake took a 2-0 lead into the break.
  • Three minutes into the second half, the Mavericks picked up the offensive attack with a quick shot on target for Kametani that was stopped by Brown. Mitch Hammer followed with a shot high of the goal.
  • Drake put two more on target within two minutes of each other, but Lute Lillo Portero made the saves.
  • The next shot on goal marked the first goal for the Mavericks this season. Stevie Siy sent a cross into the box where Elmi was to head it into the net in the 89th minute. Drake held on for the last 90 seconds and won 2-1.
