Mavericks Close Non-Conference Play At No. 20 Gonzaga

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks close non-conference action at their first nationally ranked opponent of the season as the No. 20 Gonzaga Zags host Omaha on Saturday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. CT. The Mavericks are coming off a 3-0 loss at Oklahoma State last week and look to finish strong before league action begins next weekend. The Zags are on a seven-game win streak heading into the contest Saturday night.

Quick Kicks
  • The Mavericks fell on the road to the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State last week. OSU put up three goals and netted the game winner in the 42nd minute. The Cowgirls scored two more to win 3-0 on their home turf.
  • Mia Reedtz was previously named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 13. She put up a career-high eight saves in a 1-1 draw at Missouri State. She tallied six more vs. Minnesota and posted her fourth shutout of the year vs. the Gophers.
  • Reedtz sits third in the Summit leaderboards with a .722 goals against average. Her .868 save percentage sits second, while her four shutouts is tied for the most by a Summit League goalkeeper this season.
  • Andrea Daves has two assists this season. She previously set the Division I career-record last season with 11 career assists. Daves sits at 13 for her career and continues to rewrite the record books.
  • The Mavericks took a season-high seven shots on goal in their home opener vs. Northern Iowa. Omaha has yet to match that total in the seven games since. The Mavericks took six in two contests vs. Northern Colorado and at Missouri State.
  • Omaha's home win vs. Northern Colorado marked the 30th win of head Coach Tim Walters's career. He sits at 30-40-12 over his five year tenure with the Mavericks.

Scouting the Gonzaga Zags
The Zags enter Saturday ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and are on a seven-game win streak. Gonzaga has outscored its opponents 27-1 in that stretch with six shutouts. They put up a whopping seven goals vs. Portland State, another five vs. Hawaii and CSU Bakersfield, four vs. New Mexico State, three vs. Montana, two vs. Cal Poly, and one vs. Arizona. The 9-1 start to the season is the best start in program history for the Zags. Their lone loss of the year was to Purdue on Aug. 26.

Zags To Watch
  • Maddie Kemp leads the Zags with 19 points this season. She has a team-leading eight goals and has three assists. Kemp also leads Gonzaga with 54 shots and 31 shots on goal.
  • Kelsey Oyler adds 11 points for Gonzaga this year. She has three goals and a team-best five assists. She totaled 29 shots with 14 on goal.
  • Lyza Bosselmann has made 10 starts in goal for the Zags logging over 750 minutes. She has a .35 goals against average having only given up three on the year. Bosselmann has made 24 saves to lead the team.

Gonzaga leads the all-time series 1-0. They met in Walters' first year at the helm in 2017. The Zags won, 2-0. Daves logged 15 minutes of action in the meeting.
