OMAHA, Neb. -
Ed Port netted his first goal of the year in the 72nd minute helping Omaha to a 1-0 win vs. Midland Monday night. It marked the second home match and first home win of the year for the Mavericks.
Omaha improves to 2-3-1 on the year.
How It Happened
- Both teams struggled offensively to start the match. The Mavericks held the Warriors without a shot in the first 45, but Omaha eventually managed seven with none on target. Junior Noutoua closed the first half action with a shot that bounced off the left post just missing the goal line. The half ended tied at 0-0.
- Three minutes into the match Kenji Mboma Dem fired a shot that was saved on the ground by the Midland goalkeeper. Stevie Siy tracked down the ball and took another shot on goal that went right into the goalkeeper's hands for his second save in 15 seconds.
- At the 62:11 mark, Thomas Moulder sent Midlands first shot of the match. It went high over the target.
- Ed Port made it a 1-0 Omaha game in the 71st minute. Naz Astwood sent a pass to the top of the box from the 40-yard line. Port battled by a Midland defender and sent a shot low right to beat the diving goalkeeper for the game winner.
- About two minutes later, the Warriors put the pressure on in an attempt to knot the match. Nathanael Sallah made the save to keep a clean sheet. Omaha wins 1-0.
Inside the Box
- This marked the first win at Caniglia this season and only the second home match of the 2021 fall campaign.
- Port's goal marked the first of the season for the senior midfielder. It is the second of his career.
- The Mavericks outshot the Warriors 17-3 and 5-1 on goal.
- Malik Elmi and Hugo Kametani led with three shots each.
- Elmi tallied a match-high two shots on goal.
- Between the pipes for Omaha was Nathanael Sallah who made his career debut. He improves to 1-0-0 on the year and notched his first career shutout and save.
