OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha continues a road trip with a match at Wyoming this week. The Mavericks will take on the Cowgirls Thursday, Aug. 29. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. CT. Omaha split its opening week with a home opening win vs. UNI after a first half goal from Emilie Erland. The Mavericks then fell, 1-0, at K-State. Wyoming earned its first win of the year after a 2-1 win vs. Colorado School of the Mines.

Quick Kicks
  • The Mavericks opened 2021 action with two matches last week. Omaha blanked UNI, 1-0, to open the season at Caniglia. Emilie Erland netted her first career goal leading the Mavericks to the win. On the road, Omaha fell to K-State, 1-0.
  • Omaha was selected third in the Summit League Preseason poll prior to the regular season kicking off. Sophia Green and Margaret LaVigne were tabbed players to watch.
  • Omaha made the Summit League championship match for the second time under head coach Tim Walters last season. The Mavericks tied with the defending champions South Dakota State in the semifinals but advanced by penalty kicks.
  • The Mavericks return 19 letterwinners, including 10 starters. Among the returners are Newcomer of the Year Sophia Green and Goalkeeper of the year Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen.
  • Omaha also returns all its All-Conference selections. Olesen and Margaret LaVigne were named First Team, Green and Grace Ostergaard were named Second Team, and Green Ostergaard, Olesen, Jordyn West, and Regan Zimmers were named Newcomer Team.
  • Andrea Daves is taking her extra year of eligibility and returning for one more season with the Mavericks. She complied 10 points last season, including five goals and two assists.
  • Six new faces join the squad this fall. Two local players in Cece Behrens and Sena Ahovissi. Reagan Bourgeois and Kayla Futakami will compete as freshman, while Rachel Thigpen and Meg Nemnich join as transfers.
 
Scouting the Wyoming Cowgirls
The Cowgirls are 1-0-0 heading into the midweek match-up with the Mavericks. Wyoming downed Colorado School of the Mines 2-1 in its season opener. The Cowgirls finished 2-7-0 in the spring season and were selected to finish 10th in the Mountain West preseason poll. They return nine of the 11 starters for fall action.
 
Panthers to Watch
  • Faith Joiner netted a goal for Wyoming to knot the match with Colorado School of the Mines. She tallied three shots on goal for the Cowgirls in the season opener.
  • Jamie Tatum recorded an assist on Joiner's goal. She tallied two shots in the action.
  • Alex Daws played a complete game between the pipes for Wyoming. She made four saves and picked up her first win of the season.
 
Series History
Wyoming leads the all-time series, 2-0-0. The teams last met in the 2013 season. The Cowgirls took a 2-1 win over the Mavericks.
