OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha head baseball coach
Evan Porter announced the addition of 17 newcomers to the Maverick baseball program on Wednesday.
"We are excited to add this class to our baseball family," said Porter. "Not only is this group talented, but they are all high-character people. Our program's recent success and the addition of our on-campus ballpark Tal Anderson Field helped us recruit these fine young men. We look forward to having this group join us as fall workouts begin next month."
The incoming class includes seven players from Nebraska, two from Iowa and one from Minnesota, Kentucky, Colorado, Oklahoma, Nevada, Missouri, South Dakota and Kansas.
Matt Baughn | C | R/R | 6-0 | 210 | Las Vegas, Nev.
Baughn played two seasons at Northeastern Junior College. In 2020, Baughn hit .293 with a double, home run and seven RBI while also scoring eight runs in 15 games. In his second season, the Las Vegas native hit .313 with three homers, seven doubles, 30 RBI and scored 18 runs. Baughn was named to the Academic All-American Third Team in 2020.
Charlie Bell | RHP | R/R | 6-5 | 230 | Olathe, Kan.
Bell pitched two seasons at Fort Scott CC before joining the Mavericks. In two seasons, Bell appeared in 18 games, making 17 starts on the mound with a 9-3 record and 112 strikeouts in 77.1 innings. The Olathe, Kan., native made six appearances, including five starts while going 3-2 in 26 innings with 39 strikeouts in 2020. Bell went 6-1 in 11 starts with 73 strikeouts in 51.1 innings in his final season with the Greyhounds.
Cam Frederick | INF | R/R | 5-11 | 185 | Lincoln, Neb.
Frederick joins the Mavericks after playing one season at Creighton. With the Bluejays, Frederick appeared in 14 games, making three starts with a double, an RBI and four runs scored. The Lincoln, Neb., native finished his prep career as the top-ranked shortstop in Nebraska by Prep Baseball Report. Frederick was also rated as the third-best player in the state according to Perfect Game.
Noah Greise | INF/C | R/R | 6-0 | 210 | Omaha, Neb.
Greise joins the Mavericks after redshirting one season at Wichita State. Before joining the Shockers, Greise led Millard South to back-to-back appearances in the state baseball tournament as a sophomore and junior, finishing runner-up in both seasons. Greise hit .309 with seven doubles, three triples, three home runs and 17 RBI as a sophomore before hitting .408 with 12 doubles, three homers and 25 RBI as a first-team all-state selection in his junior campaign.
Will Hanafan | OF | R/R | 6-2 | 185 | Council Bluffs, Iowa
Hanafan joins the Mavericks after spending three seasons at Creighton. The Council Bluffs, Iowa, native played in 87 games, making 67 starts and hitting .264 at the plate. Hanafan totaled seven doubles, a homer and 30 RBI while scoring 32 runs and stealing eight bases as a Bluejay.
Drew Hmielewski | OF/RHP | L/R | 6-2 | 215 | Marshall, Minn.
Hmielewski comes to the Mavericks after playing four seasons at Minnesota. Hmielewski appeared in 83 career games with the Gophers, including 38 starts. The Marshall, Minn., native hit .235 with five doubles, a pair of triples, a homer and 18 RBI at Minnesota. On the mound, Hmielewski had six appearances and struck out 11 batters in 10.2 innings.
Devin Hurdle | INF | R/R | 6-1 | 190 | DeWitt, Iowa
Hurdle arrives at Omaha after a two-year stint at Iowa Central CC. Hurdle posted a .286 batting average with seven home runs and 37 RBI while playing in 56 games with the Tritons. The DeWitt, Iowa, native totaled two triples, eight doubles, 39 runs and swiped nine stolen bases in the two seasons.
Dawson Linder | RHP | R/R | 6-4 | 225 | Lincoln, Neb.
Linder joins the Mavericks after playing two seasons at Hutchinson CC. As a freshman, Linder tossed 22.1 innings while collecting 24 strikeouts with a 2-1 record and 4.43 ERA. Linder helped the Blue Dragons finish as co-champions of the Jayhawk West Conference and earn a second-place finish at the NJCAA Region VI Tournament. In a shortened sophomore season in 2020, Linder appeared in five games, making four starts with a 1-2 record. Linder garnered 22 strikeouts and four walks in 21.2 innings of action.
Tyler Mattingley | RHP | R/R | 6-1 | 190 | Thornton, Colo.
Mattingley arrives at Omaha after pitching two seasons at Southeast CC. In two seasons with the Storm, Mattingley notched a 1.69 ERA in 18 appearances with a 3-0 record, two saves and 48 strikeouts in 26.2 innings of work. The Thornton, Colo., native tossed 8.1 innings with a 1.08 ERA and 14 strikeouts in a shortened season in 2020. In 2021, Mattingley was named first-team all-region and led Southeast to the Region 9 championship with a 38-15 record after going 3-0 with two saves and striking out 34 opposing hitters.
Tanner Olmstead | RHP | R/R | 6-4 | 220 | Sioux Falls, S.D.
Olmstead comes to Omaha after spending two seasons at Northeast CC. Olmstead pitched 16.2 innings and had a 2-2 record in five appearances, including four starts in 2020. Olmstead recorded 24 strikeouts and six walks before having the season shortened due to COVID-19. The Sioux Falls, S.D., native tossed two innings in 2021 before suffering a season-ending injury. Prior to college, Olmstead posted a 6-2 record with a 2.89 ERA in his senior season at Sioux Falls Washington High School.
Cooper Prososki | LHP/OF | R/L | 6-3 | 210 | Bennington, Neb.
Prososki arrives at Omaha after playing two seasons at Southeast CC. Prososki hit .196 with three doubles, two triples and 11 RBI with 10 runs scored in his time with the Storm. On the mound, the Bennington, Neb., native appeared in eight games, making six starts with a 2-3 record and had 26 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of work.
Drew Reetz | INF | R/R | 5-11 | 190 | Elkhorn, Neb.
Reetz joins the Mavericks after playing two seasons at Hutchinson CC. In two seasons, Reetz totaled five doubles, three homers, 19 RBI, 30 runs and 10 stolen bases while hitting .243 in 48 games. The Elkhorn, Neb., native hit .250 with two doubles, three homers, 10 RBI and 12 runs in 18 games in 2020. Reetz played in 30 games in 2021, garnering three doubles, nine RBI and 18 runs with five stolen bases.
Will Reetz | OF/1B | R/R | 6-3 | 220 | Elkhorn, Neb.
Reetz arrives at Omaha after playing three seasons at Hutchinson CC. In three years with the Storm, Reetz hit .273 with 23 doubles, four triples, 22 home runs, 80 RBI and scored 104 runs while playing in 118 games. Reetz capped his time at Hutchinson by hitting .319 with 11 doubles, two triples, 10 homers and 46 RBI in 50 games in 2021.
Caleb Riedel | LHP | L/L | 6-1 | 190 | Omaha, Neb.
Riedel comes to Omaha after pitching two seasons at Iowa Western CC. In two seasons, Riedel went 4-0 with one save and a 3.73 ERA in 31.1 innings in 18 appearances on the mound, including three starts. The Omaha native went 1-0 in five appearances with 13 strikeouts in 10.1 innings in 2020. Riedel posted a 3-0 record with one save in 13 appearances in 2021 while striking out 29 opposing hitters and collecting a 2.14 ERA in 21 innings of work.
Eddie Satisky | INF | R/R | 6-3 | 210 | Lexington, Ky.
Satisky arrives at Omaha after spending two seasons at Chattanooga State CC. In two seasons, Satisky totaled 19 doubles, a triple, six home runs and 60 RBI in 68 games played. The Lexington, Ky., native hit .480 with five doubles, two homers and 22 RBI while scoring 15 runs in 17 games in 2020. In 2021, Satisky batted .344 with 14 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 38 RBI.
Wyatt Sellers | RHP | R/R | 6-0 | 165 | Sapulpa, Okla.
Sellers joins the Mavericks after pitching two seasons at Northwestern Oklahoma College. Sellers totaled 21 appearances with 10 starts, posting a 7-1 record with one save. In his first season, the Sapulpa, Okla., native tossed 22.1 innings and struck out 31 opposing hitters while recorded a 3-0 mark with one save in 11 appearances. In 2021, Sellers made 10 appearances with nine starts, going 4-1 with 53 strikeouts in 33 innings.
Parker Weddle | RHP | R/R | 6-0 | 175 | Kansas City, Mo.
Weddle comes to Omaha after playing two seasons at Kansas City Kansas CC. In the two seasons, Weddle made 22 appearances on the mound, including 10 starts while collecting a 5-5 record with one save and tallying 85 strikeouts in 69 innings of work.
