Omaha Closes Regular Season at Home with South Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha closes the regular season at home hosting South Dakota Friday, May 7 and Saturday May 8. The doubleheaders are set to start at noon both days.

Omaha will honor its five seniors Madie Otte, Kaisha Wells, Allison Helton, Hailey Bartz, and Emily Klosterman Saturday between the games of the doubleheader for the 2021 senior day. Emma Dargy, a 2020 senior, will be honored Friday.

Play For Tay
This weekend's series will feature a fundraiser for former Maverick Taylor Conkling. Look for the ball buckets on the concourse at Connie Clausse Field this Friday and Saturday to donate to the ongoing medical care for Conkling. 
 
Leading Off
  • Omaha took the series at Kansas City with a sweep on Saturday and a split on Sunday of last week's action. On day one, the Mavericks saw a 12-inning 1-0 shutout win in game one. The bats came alive in game two as Omaha won 11-8.
  • Kamryn Meyer pitched a complete game in the extra-inning win and retired a career-high 13 batters over the 12 innings of work. Lexi Burkhardt doubled in the top of the 12th to plate Allison Helton for the winning run.
  • In game two, Omaha recorded four homers, including a grand slam from Burkhardt in the sixth. Burkhardt's grand slam plated the game winning run.
  • In the final game of the series, Omaha won 9-2 to take the series. By the sixth inning, the Mavericks led 8-0 after RBI singles from Burkhardt, Diana Murtha, and Sydney Nuismer.
  • Burkhardt and Meyer swept the Summit League weekly awards. Meyer gave up only two runs and recorded 20 strikeouts in her two wins in the circle. Burkhardt finished the weekend hitting .500 with six hits, two runs, and seven RBI.
  • Omaha has now tallied three Summit League Player of the Week honors and two Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Meyer and Burkhardt each with two on the year.
 
Scouting the South Dakota Coyotes
The Coyotes are 12-34 overall and 7-9 in league play heading into the final weekend of the regular season. USD took the series with North Dakota, 3-1, to open league play. The Coyotes picked up a win vs. North Dakota State and took two vs. Kansas City to tie the series. USD handed South Dakota State its only loss in conference play with a 3-1 win in game one. The Coyotes sit in fifth place in the standings and are looking to rebound off a three-game losing streak.
 
Coyotes to Watch
  • Camille Fowler leads the Coyotes batting .281 on the year. She's started and played in 44 games this season and totaled 41 hits, two triples, nine RBI, and 21 runs scored. Fowler leads South Dakota with 14 stolen bases this season.
  • Over 33 starts, Courtney Wilson is hitting .347 this season for South Dakota. She has 35 hits, including four doubles, three triples, and one homer. Wilson's recorded 13 RBI and 15 runs scored.
  • In the circle, Sarah Lisko has made 19 starts and appeared in 26 games for the Coyotes. She has a 4.53 ERA on the year and is 5-13. Lisko has retired 44 batters over 123.2 innings of work.
 
Series History
Omaha leads the all-time series 86-23. The Mavericks and Coyotes played a three-game series back in the 2019 season for their last meeting. USD took all three games over Omaha. Lexi Burkhardt hit .500 over the three game series. She totaled four hits, including a double, and a run scored.
