Mavericks Clinch Series with 8-6 Win at WIU

MACOMB, Ill - The Omaha baseball team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday afternoon with an 8-6 win at Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill.
 
The Mavericks improved to 22-23 (14-12 Summit League) while the Leathernecks end their season 11-29 (7-20).
 
How it Happened
  • Masen Prososki opened the scoring in the third inning, lifting a 2-1 pitch over the wall in right center for a solo shot to give the Mavericks a lead.
  • Mike Boeve drew a walk before Eduardo Rosario smacked a two-run homer to left to extend the lead to 3-0 in the third.
  • WIU got two runs back in the bottom of the third with a two-RBI double.
  • Chris Esposito began the fourth with a single through the left side before coming around to score on a wild pitch.
  • Brett Bonar scored Omaha's fifth run of the game in the fourth on an errant throw by a Leatherneck infielder.
  • Esposito scored when Grant Goldston grounded into a double play in the sixth and Boeve roped a two-RBI single into left, stretching the lead to 8-2.
  • A sacrifice fly and an RBI single allowed Western Illinois to trim the deficit to four in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Leathernecks scored two in the bottom of the ninth off an RBI double and RBI single, but the Mavericks held on to clinch the series with an 8-6 win.

  • Boeve went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run.
  • Rosario was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI while Prososki had two hits, two runs and a solo homer.
  • Starter Mark Timmins improved to 5-2 on the season, allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits with six strikeouts in six innings of work.
  • Josiah Blunt and Tanner Howe each threw a shutout inning in relief.
  • Keil Krumwiede and Jackson Gordon combined to pitch the ninth while Gordon picked up his first save of the season.
