Mavericks Conclude Regular Season Slate at Western Illinois

The Omaha baseball team wraps up the regular season slate with a road series at Western Illinois this weekend in Macomb, Ill. The Mavericks and Leathernecks will play a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at noon and single games on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Around the Horn
  • Omaha is 19-22 (11-11 Summit League) on the season after last weekend's series vs. Oral Roberts.
  • Eduardo Rosario leads Omaha with a .355 batting average, followed by Chris Esposito (.315) and Mike Boeve (.313).

Scouting the Western Illinois Leathernecks
The Western Illinois Leathernecks enter this weekend's series with a 10-26 overall record and 6-17 mark in Summit League play. The Leathernecks are currently in a battle with South Dakota State entering the final weekend to clinch the final spot in the Summit League Baseball Championships next weekend at Tal Anderson Field. Trenton Bauer leads WIU at the plate, hitting .291 with seven doubles and 22 RBI.
 
Chandler Fochs is 2-5 on the mound in nine starts this season with a 5.72 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 50.1 innings. Brett Sears is 2-3 with a 6.21 ERA and 20 strikeouts in seven starts this season.
 
As a team, Western Illinois is hitting .239 with 147 runs, 275 hits, 42 doubles, two triples and seven home runs in 36 games. The Leatherneck pitching staff has a combined ERA of 6.36 with 221 strikeouts while allowing 262 runs, 209 earned, on 343 hits in 295.2 innings.
 
All-Time Against Western Illinois
Omaha leads the all-time series with the Leathernecks, 28-14. The Mavericks swept Western Illinois in a three-game series earlier this season at Tal Anderson Field. Omaha won 15-13 in their last meeting on May 2.
