DES MOINES, Iowa – The Omaha track & field team posted a big day of lifetime bests at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake on Friday.
"The amount of lifetime bests that were produced today was really encouraging," said head coach
Chris Richardson. "Before the meet, we told them to focus on their goals and ignore outside distractions and they did that very well.
"The message afterwards was to set new goals since they had smashed their old ones."
Senior
Scarlett Hill set her second lifetime best of the season in the 400 meters, running a time of 58.74 to finish second. She led a parade of four PRs in the event.
Jaycee Schettler was fourth in a time of 1:01.29,
Vanessa Gunderson was sixth in a time of 1:01.93, and
Chloe Sabatka reset her PR with a time of 1:03.39, good for seventh.
In the 100 meter hurdles,
Kylie Johnson won with a lifetime best time of 15.26.
Roxy Denton was right behind in second with a lifetime best clocking of 15.36.
In the 200 meters, Johnson was fifth with a lifetime best time of 27.23 while Denton was sixth with a PR of 27.64.
In the 1,500 meters,
Paige Blackford took seventh with a lifetime best of 4:59.06.
Emily Robles was 12th with a time of 5:13.51.
Zoe Christenson set a PR with a time of 5:24.20, for 14th, while
Jesse Ixta was 15th with a lifetime best of 5:24.51.
In the 5,000 meters,
Maya Nachtigal took eighth in a time of 18:40.66, and
Danielle Howard was 13th with a time of 19:32.64, both lifetime bests.
In the field events,
Lori Vedder won the javelin with a throw of 124-07, leading another group of Mavericks.
Jaycee Schettler was second with a mark of 119-05 while
Lucy Turner was third at 106-04 and Denton fourth at 103-07. The latter three were lifetime bests.
Also in the javelin,
Taylor Ramaekers was fifth at 90-11, and Johnson took sixth with a PR of 77-01 ¼.
In the shot put,
Kinsey Scheffler set a lifetime best with a throw of 36-11 ¼.
Also in the field events,
Carrie Simonson reset her lifetime best in the long jump with a mark of 16-08 ¾, more than nine inches farther than her previous best.
In the high jump, Ramaekers tied her lifetime best with a jump of 5-03, putting her first.
The Mavericks finished second in the team standings with a score of 137, trailing only host Drake at 164.
The Mavericks will compete in two meets next week. The multi-eventers will compete in the KT Woodman Multis on Wednesday and Thursday, April 14-15, and then take part in the Loper Invitational at Nebraska Kearney on Friday, April 16.
