Mavericks Drop Season Closer to Kansas City

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks hosted Kansas City for their final match of the 2020-21 season. The Roos took a 4-3 win over Omaha. The Mavericks took the doubles point, but the Roos tallied four of the singles points to clinch the match.

With the loss, the Mavericks finish the season 9-14 (1-5).

"Tough loss today. It was not the way we wanted our season to come to and end," said head coach Adam Summitt. "The ladies fought hard, and we were within reach of the win. UMKC played great and pushed us. Unfortunately, we will have to prove ourselves next year."

Omaha started out with an early lead in the match after winning the doubles point. Natalie Lorentz and Marie Kapelevich took the No. 3 line 6-1 followed by a win from Madison Gallegos and Ines Absisan at No. 1 doubles, 6-4.

The Roos evened the match 1-1 with a win in No. 2 singles to start singles action. Gallegos and Lorentz tallied the next two points with wins at the No. 1 and 3 lines.

Gallegos downed her opponent, 6-4 and 6-1. Lorentz then picked up a win with two 6-3 set scores. The Roos then  stepped up and clinched the match with three straight singles wins.

Following the match, Omaha honored two seniors in Lorentz and Kapelevich.

"I want to tank Natalie and Marie for their time here," said Summitt. "They were program game changers for us. They are true Mavericks and will be impossible to replace. I look forward to connecting with them as alumnae down the road."
