Women's Soccer Continues Road Trip at South Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. – The Mavericks continues a four-game road trip with a pair of games at South Dakota. The teams will meet for a Friday/Sunday series. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. Friday, March 5. The series will conclude on Sunday, March 7 at 1 p.m. Omaha and South Dakota are on two-game skids heading into the weekend and looking to pick up a couple of conference wins.

Quick Kicks
  • The Mavericks dropped two games to North Dakota State last weekend. The teams battled in overtime in the first meeting of the series, but the Bison prevailed, 3-2. NDSU took game two, 2-0.
  • Hannah Heinemann netted both goals of game one vs. the Bison. She now leads the Mavericks with nine points and four goals this season. She has almost doubled her career points in this season alone. Heinemann entered the 2020-21 season with five career-points.
  • Grace Crockett tallied her first career assist in the 3-2 loss to NDSU. She assisted Heinemann on her second goal of the game.

Scouting the South Dakota Coyotes
South Dakota is riding a two-game skid into the weekend after dropping a pair of games at Denver. The Coyotes have one win on the year vs. Kansas City, 5-0. South Dakota was picked to finish fourth in the Summit League Preseason Poll. It is the highest ranking the Coyotes have received since joining the conference in 2011. The Coyotes currently sit in sixth in the Summit League standings with a 1-3-0 record in league action.
 
Coyotes to Watch
  • Shaylee Gailus currently leads USD with five points this season. She has scored two goals and tallied an assist. Both her goals came on her only two shots of the season.
  • Alexis Mitchell also has two goals this season for the Coyotes. Mitchell is second on the team with seven shots this year. She was named a Summit League Preseason Player to Watch. Last year, Mitchell was named to the All-Summit League Second Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team.
  • Abby Ostrem was the second Coyote named to the Summit League Preseason Player to Watch list. She has one assist this season. Last year, she started all 18 games for the Coyotes and earned All-Summit League Second Team accolades. She finished the 2019 season with one assist and seven shots.
  • Emma Harkeroad has played all four games in goal for the Coyotes. She has a 1.46 GAA along with 18 saves and a .750 save percentage.
 
Series History
Omaha holds a 15-5-3 advantage in the all-time series with North Dakota. The teams met on Oct. 27 last year. The Hawks took a 5-2 win over the Mavericks in Grand Forks. Sydney Randall and Laurin Mertz scored in the loss.
