Mavericks Set To Compete In OSU/Tulsa Invitational

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha softball is set to compete in its third regular season tournament this season at the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invitational. The Mavericks will play a five game slate vs. OSU, Tulsa, and New Mexico March 5 through 7.
 
Weekend Schedule
Omaha will play a doubleheader Oklahoma State on Friday, March 5 beginning at 2 p.m. Game one vs. the Cowgirls will air on ESPN+ and live stats will be available for both games. On Saturday, March 6, Omaha will play a doubleheader at Tulsa starting at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on thehurricane.com and live stats will also be available. Omaha wraps up the weekend with a neutral site game vs. New Mexico at OSU.

Leading Off
  • Omaha tallied its first three wins of the 2021 season at the Michelle Short Memorial Classic last weekend. The Mavericks downed Arkansas- Pine Bluff twice and Missouri State once to improve to 3-6 on the year.
  • Lexi Burkhardt earned Summit League Player of the Week honors Monday afternoon for her performance over the five-game stretch. Burkhardt hit .538 over the weekend tallying seven hits, including a homer. She is currently on a five-game hitting streak.
  • Izzy Eltze made her debut for the Mavericks last weekend and made five starts at center field. She recorded two hits in two different games. The freshman from Crete, Neb. tallied a triple and home run vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff to finish with two RBI and two runs.
  • Sydney Nuismer made her career debut in the circle for Omaha. She came in for relief in Omaha's 3-1 loss to Missouri State. Against the Bears, she pitched five complete innings and gave up only two hits while retiring five batters.
  • Kamryn Meyer keeps setting and breaking her personal best in single-game strikeouts. Meyer recorded eight vs. Pine Bluff to pass her previous high of seven. Then vs. Missouri State, Meyer struck out nine for a new high. She also improved to 2-2 in the circle.
  • The Mavericks will call the Connie Claussen Field home this season. Omaha will host crosstown rival Creighton for the first game on its new turf March 17.
 
Division I Milestone
The Mavericks are sitting at 199 Division I wins after picking up three at the Michelle Short Memorial Classic. The next win Omaha secures will mark the 200th win since the Division I transition.
 
Nationally Ranked
The Cowgirls are ranked No. 9 in the NFCA National Poll this week with a 13-1 record heading into the weekend. The will be the first nationally ranked opponent the Mavericks will see this season. The last time Omaha faced a ranked opponent was in 2019. The Mavericks lost a pair of games to No. 14/18 Arkansas at another set to No. 9 Georgia.
 
On Deck
Omaha will travel to Wichita State March 12-14. While at the Wichita State Invitational, the Mavericks will play two games vs. North Texas, two vs. Missouri State, and one vs. Wichita State.
